Meh...I'm guessing that after Oklahoma throttled you 35-10 to end the regular season that Bryant wasn't ducking you...maybe he should have scheduled Arizona St...based on the Fiesta Bowl results, they were clearly better than Nebraska in '75.

meh

Nebraska didn't want to be there (fiesta bowl)

lol

Rumor has it?

I wasn't there and Bear Bryant is dead and buried, but I remember it being widely reported at the time.

From the actual Sugar Bowl site

1975-Dec Game Recap / Allstate Sugar Bowl

In fact, it was Bryant who had recommended Paterno's Nittany Lions as his opponent for the game.

Bryant was typically downplaying his chances, even against a preferred opponent, one that figured to be 13 ½ points behind Alabama at game's end, even with an injured Crimson Tide quarterback. "I think we'll win," Bryant said, then hastily added, "if I don't overcoach 'em."

He picked Penn St, but I guess people can argue about why.

He was able to do so because at that time Alabama pretty much had it's pick of bowl games that didn't have tie ins. It wasn't the only time he picked his bowl opponent, and he for sure didn't always pick them because they would be easy wins(Notre Dame for example).

At the point the 1975 Sugar Bowl match-up was announced (November 17, 1975), Nebraska was 10-0. Penn State on the other hand, had just lost their second game and were 8-2.

I love Nebraska and all, but seriously....you're talking about Alabama here. Nebraska is one dynasty short of being in that conversation.

I love the desperation here, really. Seems to me the tournament is "most storied program" and you are bringing up stories about Alabama(good or bad its still a story and part of the history) While not trying to buildup up Nebraska. You are denigrating a program that has been shown to be better in more categories and not trying to build up your own program, but to tear down the other. My question is, do you not feel that Nebraska can win on its own merits and accomplishments that you need to drag in the garbage and drag a quality program through the mud? How sad for you that you cannot even name Nebraska's accomplishments and hope they stand for themselves.

Notice that the Tea Bagger is a fan, not the University of Alabama football program. We all have crazies, but not one Bama fan is dragging Nebraska fans into this battle between teams.

So me pointing out he is whining is not ok? i will remember that in the upcoming weeks once the season starts. Should be fun to remind people. Its an online poll, and he is trying everything he can to win it, that wreaks of desperation.

I voted for Nebraska because I think they're a better program, despite all the stats saying otherwise.

Point noted...also note that these are all "stories" ...not every story is a good one. for every Tommy Frazier there is a little Lawrence Phillips.

Roll Tide!

Nebraska has more all time wins than Alabama, so completely understand voting for them.

24 more wins, 36 more losses and 3 less ties. But the gap between the 2 is small enough I don't really think it's an issue. Nebraska has more wins, Alabama has the better %.

The real problem for Nebraska is they have a losing record in bowl games.

And in general, there are a couple of teams that come to most peoples mind when they think of college football and more people would generally think of Alabama across pretty much all generations, even those who are no longer with us.

I like Nebraska but I think they've pretty much peaked in this one. Good bit of Nebraska fans around here though, so it'll probably end real close and they could pull it off.

Nebraska is (13-6) against the SEC in bowl games.
