I don't how Iowa State is a Top 20 team. I get that they have the W vs West Virginia and they were never blown out. I also get that outside TCU, they have lost to decent to good teams. I don't consider Iowa good right now, just their defense.

I would put ISU the same place as Iowa. I think if both teams played again, it will be about the same as Sept game.

1. Oregon shouldn't even be ranked, let alone over Utah, who they lost to, and have a worst record than. Who you also don't even have ranked at all. WTF

2. Why are Northwestern and Mississippi St deserving of rankings over the 2 loss smaller schools? Neither have particularly impressive resumes for 4 loss teams. Both are more deserving than Oregon though, I will give you that.

I'm not seeing it with Syracuse, Northwestern, and Iowa St. Syracuse should be ranked, Northwestern maybe (but I don't think so), Iowa St not at all.

NC State seems high.

Miss St seems high.

Iowa St isn't a top 20 team IMO.

Northwestern shouldn't be ranked. They lost to Akron and have no ranked wins.

I've been pretty lazy and just adjusted via my last week's rankings.

I've always been tough on mid majors, and 2 losses as a mid major pretty much eliminates them from my rankings.

Miss State has been playing at a high level ever since Nick Fitzgerald started playing like Nick Fitzgerald. Their defense did far better against Bama than anyone else, and they were a better team than they showed the first half of the season.

Once you get beyond the top 15, things get real murky.

I was excited seeing your rankings until I saw Iowa St. I just don't understand ranking a 7-4 team before bowl season is over. Overall pretty good though.

Miss St resume just doesn't justify it IMO. I also have had them higher as recently as a couple weeks ago for the same reasons you listed. However, with the regular season over I feel like we have enough data to start looking at resumes instead of potential. Miss St is a dangerous team to face in a bowl for sure. However...

vs SFA (2-8) W 63-6
@ KSU (6-6) W 31-10
vs ULL (7-5) W 56-10
@ UK (9-3) L 7-28
vs FLA (9-3) L 6-13
vs AUB (7-5) W 23-9
@ LSU (9-3) L 3-19
vs TA&M (8-4) W 28-13
vs LT (7-5) W 45-3
@ ALA (12-0) L 0-24
vs ARK (2-10) W 52-6
@ MISS (5-7) W 35-3

When they played ranked teams they scored 7, 6, 3, 28, and 0 points this year. That's an average of 8.8 points per game against ranked foes. That isn't top 15 worthy which is where people are starting to slide them toward.

Why is Miss St not at top 20 team? They have one of the best defenses in the country and all their losses were to top teams: Alabama, LSU, Kentucky and Florida. Meanwhile they have a win over ranked A&M.

It's not top10 material, but top20 doesn't seem unreasonable to me. If they had a weaker schedule and some bad losses, but they don't. Shouldn't a team ranked #20 lose to the teams above them and beat the teams below them in general?

They have a top5 defense.

Yes, they do. I like their team, a lot, but they disappointed this year. They had a lot of shots to impress in the SEC and only showed up against A&M. They scored 16 combined points against all ranked teams not named A&M. You gotta be able to score more than 4 points a game against ranked opponents. That is more pathetic than Oklahoma and West Virginia playing defense you were railing on and on about this weekend.

It wasn't egregious, I've just never seen a 7 win team ranked this late in the season before by so many people. Especially when they have the same number of losses as Iowa who isn't getting ranked by anybody and completely dominated Iowa St defensively. Texas was a sieve on defense until they played Iowa St. They are a two trick pony on offense. Montgomery makes 27 people miss to gain 10 yards, or they throw an alley oop to Butler.

They are pretty solid defensively, but I'm not sure they could handle a power offense very well with their 3-3-5 defensive alignment that gives the Big 12 fits. Which is probably what they are going to get in a bowl game.

They only have 7 wins because they had a game postponed to next week. I'm fine with someone not ranking them, but once it's down to that low, there's issue with everyone's resume/performance.

It might sound illogical, but I wont rank them until they get that 8th win. Even if it's a cupcake. It just bugs me a bit.

That's fine. I disagree, but I understand. Just differing opinions.
