I didn't like the Jacobs OR Manningham signings, but am admittedly eating my hat about Manningham. But In the case of Mario, I think Harbaugh's elimination of sight reading for WRs may have something to do with him actually being where he is supposed to be.

*Sight adjustments - Sight reading is something muscians do. ;)

What a non-story. Was this guy ever relevant this season? Who cares if he's suspended for three weeks?

very weird.... now we lack a bruiser back.

But its not like we ever used one this season....

Edwards, Jacobs, who is it next year?

LOL to all those who would have said this was going to be Moss this year.

I really expected something like this after his little twitter outburst. Harsh punishment, but he had to realize he was going to get in trouble for acting like a child.

I think once he saw what was happening, he did the George Costanza thing and tried to get cut, but instead was suspended. Now, he files a grievance with the team, trying to force himself out or into being paid (I assume the suspension includes game checks?).

Yep, he'll miss out on 167k out of his 905k contract. I guess 167k is worth filing a grievance, thats a lot of money to not put up a fight for.

That was my feeling on the story why suspend a guy who has been active for 2 games this season. Unless the staff didn't want him at the practice facility. I personally don't like the move since it creates a potential distraction with a big SNF game coming up in NE

I would agree if it was Crabtree, Hunter, RayMac, Tarell Brown, or other home-grown Niners, but I doubt Jacobs was endearing himself all that much to his teammates this year. Time will tell, but I don't think the strength of the Niners (Gore/Defense/STs... except Akers) will be all that bothered.

Gore, workhorse that he is, will probably be happy to have 1 less person make him have to leave the field. I fuckin love Gore.

Which one is more distracting? His bad attitude and tweets (and him upset on the sideline, the lockerroom, and in practices) or suspending him and telling the team why? It's not like when Alex was benched, Jacobs didn't have vocal support to play. So I can't see this being a bad thing unless everyone gets injured, in which, I suppose they could unsuspend a player who possibly won't be "in it" much. If you can't get up for this game against the Patriots or are distracted by a bench player not getting paid (which is all this is, really), then you need to look at yourself. Even worse if you get distracted by someone who isn't even there.

Good riddance. Please take Anthony Dixon and Ted Ginn with you. Actually, wait until the season is over before you take Dixon. But definitely take Ginn.

and Goodwins sorry ass. after the season of course. Fuck Jacobs. he is a whiny little bitch and I hope he never plays again. I liked the fact that they take the hit or miss on these vet players for cheap. if they dont work out then the tell them to piss off. at least they have the balls to do that.

I will say this about Moss. I was really intrigued by the signing, and I thought he would be contributing more on the field. However, I really love the fact that he is such a great leader for that WR corps, and has been referenced several times as such a great contributor in other ways.

Latest on the Jacobs saga
9:43AM ET
Brandon Jacobs | 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers signed RB Brandon Jacobs this offseason for some reason, though to most outside observers that reason remains unclear. Jacobs has rushed just five times for seven yards in 2012, and his campaign has effectively ended, as the club has suspended him for the final three contests of the regular season. It remains unclear whether he'll be reinstated for the postseason, though that seems very unlikely.

While the Niners could have simply released Jacobs, that would leave him open to be claimed by another team -- perhaps another playoff team in the NFC -- and in this way, San Francisco is avoiding that possibility. However, Jacobs will attempt to seek relief from this punishment: Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that the RB will file a grievance in an effort to be reinstated. It's possible that this could result in his being released. Stay tuned, as this story may be far from over.

I was pleased with how Dixon ran the ball down at the goal line against Miami. As for Jacobs, no one does what he did unless they are hoping to get released. I think he wanted this. Good riddance. As Thin Lizzy said ",...if that chick don't wanna know, forget her".

I don't think we ever brought Jacobs in to be a bruising back or were even looking for a bruising back - I honestly believe Jacobs was just insurance and nothing more.

He was effective in the goal line offense last year though. I think he scored 8touchdowns. I was hoping he'd do the same here. The 49ers do seem to be a little more effective this year in goal in situations though...............If not, I'm sure Chris P. will come on with some stats that show me wrong.

Hey :boink:

Don't you think Dixon has made some strides this year? Or at least enough to keep him around? I think he has worked hard on not dancing as much, and since he has NO value to any other team (maybe the Seahawks ), he is a very cheap, very poor man's bruiser back.... but is good enough.

Eric Branch:

For those wondering, there is no requirement for an NFL team to publicly provide a reason for suspending a player. #49ers
