Mike Garafolo:

Brandon Jacobs will be filing a grievance in hopes of getting reinstated, getting his money or getting his ticket out of SF.

All of his belly-aching finally came to a head. Obviously, he did (or didn't do) something that caused his role to be so limited but he didn't handle it well. I think the suspension does two things. 1) Keeps him from hurting us on another roster. 2) I assume if it is a team decision they can also decide to reverse it if needed; i.e. another injury.

I really expected something like this after his little twitter outburst. Harsh punishment, but he had to realize he was going to get in trouble for acting like a child.

can't help wonder if Baalke and staff did enough due diligence?

pretty sure they saw the talent on the field, else why sign him with those guarantees? but did they do the character/personality stuff to its fullest?

he must've worked hard off season cause of the reportedly lost weight, great shape? so did this character thing come up as early as TC? Pre-Season?

he was injured and did get a late start, was he dogging it a little?

It was a low risk move. He was not brought in to be the lead back, he was cheap insurance. That only needs so much "due diligence." Our team is absolutely no worse off now as compared to before his suspension.

Good riddance. Please take Anthony Dixon and Ted Ginn with you. Actually, wait until the season is over before you take Dixon. But definitely take Ginn.

I'm so happy by this move. Jacobs is a MASSIVE dbag, he was when he was 19 and he still is now. Hate the guy.

I don't think we could have afforded him but I was more enamored with Tolbert than Jacobs as a bruiser back.

Twitter seems like the worst possible venture for athletes who are too impulsive and shoot from the hip... especially aging athletes. It seems like tweets are often the last nail in the coffin for these guys.

I don't think we ever brought Jacobs in to be a bruising back or were even looking for a bruising back - I honestly believe Jacobs was just insurance and nothing more.

I don't think Jacobs is an every down back anymore. Bad insurance policy if that was the case.

I don't think at any point the 49ers ever thought he would have to be an every down back. I think they thought and I believe he would have been a compliment to Hunter and company if Gore would have gone down.

According to a person who spoke to Jacobs after he was told of his suspension, the former New York Giant is saying he'll only play for one other team – the Giants. The person, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity, cautioned Jacobs could always change his mind. But for now, he's only interested in a return to the team that drafted him in 2005 and kept him around for seven seasons.

:suspicious:

I wonder if Jacobs honestly believes that his behavior is endearing him to his former team. I mean, Coughlin would not have put up with Jacobs' bashing coaches or the team/organization on twitter, so I don't see anything Jacobs has done within the past 12 months that would cause Tom Coughlin or Jerry Reese to change their minds about him since they seemed to have already grown tired of his behavior/immaturity.

I didn't like the Jacobs OR Manningham signings, but am admittedly eating my hat about Manningham. But In the case of Mario, I think Harbaugh's elimination of sight reading for WRs may have something to do with him actually being where he is supposed to be.
