Not necessarily ... We beat the 11-5 Saints and we were 7-9 that year ... No one gave us a chance in hell to beat the Saints, but the home field advantage paid dividends... And I exaggerated the 3 win thing, just trying to make a point ... But look at the NFC East this year, 5 or 6 wins might win that division, that division winner does not deserve a home field playoff game ...
You compared a 13-3 wild card team with a 3-13 division winner. That's not the same as an 11-5 wild card team and a 7-9 division winner.

They were primarily thinking they wanted to make the playoffs. I don't want to change that for division winners.
No, they wanted to win the division. No team goes into a season hoping to get a wild card.

You are implying that an automatic playoff bid alone is not incentive enough for them to want to win their division. That is ridiculous.

Which means more, getting a home playoff game, or just a playoff game.

If you eliminate home playoff games for division winners, what incentive does a team have to win their division? None, the incentive becomes to finish in the top 6 in their conference. Winning the division no longer really matters.

By the way, getting into the playoffs isn't a reward for winning your division, because non division winning teams get into the playoffs too.

Most likely a 7-9 or 8-8 team will make the playoffs this year solely because they won their pathetic division. Those 4 teams would otherwise have no business even sniffing the playoffs. You're seriously asking what incentive those 4 teams have to win that division???

BTW...winning a division doesn't guarantee a bye. You think teams are all about winning their division and that's it? They don't give a shit about the bye? A team's goal is to always to win as many games as possible and let the chips fall where they may.

Not ones who have lost more games than they've won.

That's also like saying an automatic bid to the NCAA basketball tournament isn't a reward for winning your conference because non conference winning teams get into the tournament too.

I just will never care that a wild card team has to play on the road in the playoffs. If you wanted a home playoff game, you should have won your division.

It 100% is. It used to be the only way teams even made the tournament.

Things change...
So it used to be a reward for winning your conference, and now it's just a reward for having a really good season.

Every team in a conference still has that chance for a bid when the conference tournament starts.

I just don't even understand your point. You are arguing that an automatic playoff bid is not a reward when everyone on here understands that no team in the NFCE would sniff the playoffs this year without it. You tell me another way that the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles or Redskins get into the playoffs without winning the division.

Why does this mean they have to have a home game as well?

I like that the divisions matter. Some great rivalries have developed as a result. I don't mind the division winner getting 1 home game at minimum.

You are like the 4th person to say this. It's like people think an automatic bid to the playoffs is nothing.
