Notes: Backs in motion

From Hobbs of all people.... So, let me get this straight - The Law Firm is essentially Bernard Scott with more carries and less catches? All of this after playing on one of the most dynamic offenses in all of football? And some of you think he's an upgrade? But hey....At least he doesn't fumble!

I like the signing and think that if the guard play improves over last year, the running game will improve as well.

The Bengals will ceratinly use their RB's more than NE does, but default of the offenses they run. It's a good chance for BJGE to show what he can do when he starts getting 15-20 carries a game consistently for multiple games in a row. In games with NE that he carried a lot, he typically did well (going off memory here, so I could be wrong).

Either way, the key to the running game will be the improvement of the OL at the two guard spots. That will also be key for 3rd and short, when it seems like our OL gets shoved back 2 yards each time.

BJGE himself is a slight upgrade. Improved guard play could propel him further.

My thoughts exactly. He's an upgrade over what we had.

If the guard play improves, then we'll get even better RB production.

If we get DeCastro and he's all that he's been made out to be, then I'll be extremely happy. I agree that interior line play would immediately improve our running game. My worry is that the organization feels they fixed their problems with two past their prime guards and a very average running back. That won't get it done.

And yes, I get that we have improved beyond where we were...... We were 27th in the league in YPC - It's hard to get worse.

in the second round, if we don't get Lamar Miller, do we just forget about picking a RB?

I'd take I Pead..... But I'm a Bearcat homer and not very objective.

Pead in the 3rd round would not be bad for any team looking to grab a young RB, who can also return kicks/punts.

I think the Bengals may not even look to take a RB this year, but next year. Scott has one more year left, and Leonard is/has been the 3rd down back, and has played very well in that role. Peerman has been solid on special teams, though I don't know that we'll ever see him carry the ball in meaningful games or numerous times without an injury (or two) during a game.

Agreed. The Bengals have shown no inclination they want to move on from Scott or Leonard. And now they've just added BJGE. There is no reason to select a RB before the 5th round (where we have 3 picks). We have way too many other needs.
