I read a story the other day about a dad who insisted that his kid be allowed on a traveling basketball team even though he was very underage, nothing that he was a top 5 national prospect for middle school etc. The coach of the traveling team said no, he's too young and immature for the pressure of this, take your time.

The dad didn't want to hear that and simply went to another traveling tream which let the highly touted kid on the team. And he wound up struggling to adapt to the competition. Fast forward, the kid is 17, no longer plays basketball and hates his father.
