Looks like we're all for an A's vs Nats WS.
The way I tend to root for playoff teams, when the Giants aren't in it, is to look at which team in each league hasn't won a title the longest and root for them. Title droughts stink, and if my team isn't going to compete for one, might as well root for the team that has been without the longest. The exceptions, of course, being the Yankees and Dodgers. Its only been 10 years for the Yankees (which, I would guess, feels like 5 lifetimes to Yankee fans), which makes it easy to pick just about any other AL team (only AL teams to win since then is the Royals, Red Sox and Astros). The Dodgers, however, are a bit more problematic because its been 31 years for them. Fortunately, there are still a few NL teams that have been longer.

By titles you mean AL or NL titles and not WS titles, correct?

5, TEX, SD, MIL, SEA WAS/MON of those teams have never won a WS title.

And of those 5, 2 of them have never been, SEA and WAS/MON.

I know exactly how good the A's and I'll be rooting for the Indians soon enough. ;)

I meant WS titles, and I include even teams who've never won it. I start the clock on each team either on the last WS title or the first year of the franchise.

While not as bad as the lack of races that the AL has, the NL races are all starting to fade. Only one of the 16 teams in the NL are officially eliminated (mathematically speaking - the Marlins), the Rockies and Pirates are closed to elimination. Another 3 float in the nether world of possibility and official elimination (the Reds, Padres and Giants). The three division titles are all but locked up (Dodgers need only win, or D-Backs lose tomorrow; the Braves have a magic number of 10), except in the Central, where both the Brewers and Cubs are 6 or less games back. The NL Wild Cards is where all the excitement is at right now. The Nats sit 2.5 games above the Cubs in the first spot. The Cubs, however, have 4 teams (Brewers, Diamondbacks, Phillies and Mets) within 4 games of them. It will be interesting to see how the WC spots shake out. This poll may need to be re-visited at the end of the month.

The Wild Card game for the NL went the way I wanted, Nats over Brewers (but would have been okay with the Brewers winning too).
I sure hope the Nats can take out the Dodgers somehow and play the Braves in the NLCS, with the Nats advancing to the World Series.
