I agree with your first point and I'm in no way suggesting that Smith is going to retire. I do think based upon what must have been a contentious and extremely deep heartfelt discussion during/following his recovery. I have no doubt that he wanted to prove to himself that he could do it. Now that he has, I'll bet he and the wife will mull what to do next when this season ends. You're right, they will figure it out, but since there's so much speculation about next year at QB, I think that it's rather shortsighted not to consider the possibility.
within the next week i will go over the options we have at qb for next year bringing up availability , cap and draft availability. still researching a few things . hopefully that can lead to a real discussion

Sometimes we learn from our mistakes. I hope that is the case with Haskins. I believe deep down that RR has counseled him and not ignored him.

I feel sure that we will never know the real truth on why Haskins went from 1st string to 3rd string but obviously mistakes were made. With what I have read and seen lately Haskins has not only shown football maturity but maturity in life as well. Let's all hope this growth will continue for all parties concerned.

I think Alex Smith is in for a rude awakening in Pittsburgh, where that defense is primed to completely shut down the dink-and-dunk crap that is a hallmark of AS’s career.

I hope Scott Turner opens up the offense with trick plays, and razzle dazzle, bc that might be the only way for a bad team with mediocre talent at too many positions (including qb) has a chance to win.

The Steelers have an active and athletic front seven. They can rush with four, just like the WTF’s can, and have the linebackers to stuff the run game.

They can literally double Touchdown Terry on every play, and fare AS to throw it to beat them.

Well this game should open some eyes for fans .If they win then perhaps they can head toward legit.

If we lose and it’s big then we know we aren’t a playoff team .

If it’s close then we are improved

Washington is 8-4 when Smith plays the whole game since 2018. 6-25 when he doesn't

Honestly I'm not even sure what this post means as if Smith had started all year and you were sitting here here at 7-4 or even 6-5 ( as I believe yiu would be ) no one would be asking if Haskins should be playing

This is a different team with a veteran QB who doesn't make mistakes. You've got a legit D, a good run game and now a great QB to manage it all .

Get to the playoffs. Win a home game. See what happens. Crazier shit has occurred

Doesn’t make mistakes? Have you watched Alex Smith this season?

If Alex Smith had started all season, I think we would be 5-6...he did start against Detroit and was the reason we lost NYG second game.

If DH had started, I think we would be 6-5, possibly 7-4...and he would be improving. DH did beat the Eagles, any QB could have beat the Cowboys twice, and we would have still beat the Bengals rather easily. In both NYG losses, the QB single-handily lost those games for us by a combined margin of four points. In those two games, the QBs had a combined four turnovers...none were from DH. The NYG scored 14 points off of Allen’s interception and fumble in game 1. In game 2, he NYG didn’t score off the three interceptions of Alex Smith, but we were in FG position on both. The other possible win could have been Detroit, but AS did play well in that one.

Given where we are, anyone out there still feel Haskins should be out there and if so, why?

I believe he should for a couple of reasons. First, Alex has done nothing that Haskins couldn’t do. His 6 yd per completion average is really weak and if he doesnt soon start throwing down the field (with effect), he will have a negative effect on the running game as defenses just stack the box against us every down. Next, Alex is not the future of this team. At best, he will be a back up and mentor to the future (at a greatly reduced price only). Haskins may not be the future, but we just don’t know. Well, we need to know before next off season.

thoughts?
Haskins is awful. No footwork, no touch on his passes and panics in the pocket because he can only manage one read. the playbook is so limited with him in there because he is as dumb as an ape and can't learn the plays..

I seriously doubt that . Smith is a winner and has been for a decade . And yes every QB makes some mistakes . When people sat "doesn't make mistakes " re sports they mean the person doesn't cost you games and you lost to Detroit because the D gave up the goods late. It happens.

AS has played the following-
NYG 3 quarters- 3 interceptions
DET I said AS played well but we lost by three. I didn’t count that as a win for DH.
CIN- AS had a pick and 166 yards passing.
DAL- AS had a pick and 149 yards passing.

AS is making far more mistakes than “some.” DH could easily have done what AS has thus far. The last two games, we have more rush yards than we do pass yards.

If you dont take any risks, you wont make many mistakes.
Against bad teams, that’s ok, because you’re playing bad teams.

Against the Steelers and Seahawks, that’s a recipe for disaster, unless Turner opens up the playbook even more so.

We all know who AS is - the epitome of a game manager.

We all wish him well, but he’s most likely going to be ineffective for three straight games coming up, and then what are the WTF’s gonna do?

Smith is not an elite passer but I do not agree that Haskin's can do the same. Smith's experience gets the offense in much better position to win. Less than 6 yards per attempt is not very good but the team got the win.

Not sure what everyone saw in Haskin's other than a big arm. I have seen little else to suggest he is good.

He is still young and quite limited in his reads. He may have the arm but you need to command respect from the huddle...he needs work there and to learn not to panic. That takes time. Which I think he would have gotten if not for the behind the scene shenanigans we will likely never know completely.

AS is the consummate professional with such a calm demeanor that obviously is admired by everyone. Not to mention, his command of the field and 3rd reads and ability to spread the ball around. Play has definitely improved since the muddy shit show we saw when AS came in after Kyle Allen was hurt.

My biggest concern was the durability of AS. I just didn’t want him hurt again. Now...I’m like...let him roll. I don’t since every time I see a blitz.

DH hopefully grows into this professional approach....looks like he is going the right direction, given his body language on the sidelines these days. I’m beginning to have hope we may see him again next season after a legit QB competition.

As an outsider looking in, I thought Smith looked pretty sharp on Thursday.

He controlled the game very well and didn't do anything too horrible to lose it.

I've seen Haskins play and I've never felt like he was in control of what was going on.

As for Darnold, I'd say the same. He never looks like he knows what is going on.

Agree with ya here. Outside that one AS soft toss directly to Jaylon... he had a solid game
