Honestly CFB needs to go to a NET style ranking that CBB uses

Where there are no rankings at all until like halfway through the season when you have actual data

The committee is just people. They're going to be biased ( even if they don't want to be ) by current rankings which are largely influenced by where you start the season

If you dont do rankings until after week 6 or so then you at least have results to base your opinion on
Right and I think that was why they didn't have the first CFP rankings until well into the season. Problem, as you say, is they are human and likely don't ignore the AP and coaches rankings.

Not sure they can get the AP on board to not rank teams before their first ranking though (guessing coaches would bow out if asked).

This belly aching over a 12th seeded team is dumb, the only issue i could see with Bama over SMU is making the conf games problematic. Otherwise id not have cared if Bama got the nod.
And, really, can make as strong a case for Ole Miss or S. Car over Bama anyway.

So why did FSU fall? The teams still have to earn those ranking by the end of the season. The SEC start out at X and carry through because they lived up to expectations (unlike FSU which didn't live up to expectations and FELL).

When and where did SEC live up to expectations this season?

Tennessee moved up 8 spots from their preseason ranking, and Texas moved up 1. Neither had impressive seasons. Everyone else in the SEC fell, many dramatically.

And Tennessee managed to lose to Arkansas, who despite being a mid-pack team in the SEC who gave Texas, Missouri, and TA&M all they wanted, lost to Oklahoma State -- who were roughly the second-worst team in the entire P4.2. Tennessee's conference schedule included four of the five worst teams in the SEC, and those teams lost to powerhouses like Georgia State and Toledo.

There is just about about no support for the excessively-high rankings of many SEC teams.

But...but....but....no conference is more impressive in beating their own?

Yeah, but it's not that hard when half your conference slate is Oklahoma, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt. There are probably 30 teams outside the SEC who could've gone 6-2 playing Tennessee's SEC schedule -- and the entirety of their OOC schedule was thumping a mediocre Wolfpack team a little bit worse than Clemson did.

Tennessee did not do enough to play their way into this tournament, but luckily for them, they started the season just outside the top 12, and no one paid any attention to their atrocious schedule.

Not sure if aware but I agreed with you and was being sarcastic.

To be honest this entire thing is pretty hilarious ( watching SEC homers get bent out of shape )

Trying to convince a normal human being to overlook losses to Vanderbilt and a 21 pt loss to Oklahoma is just bonkers

Remember in 2011 when OKST had like 5 top 25 wins ( 4 being top 15 ) but had 1 loss to a 6-6 team and these same people were telling us that losing to 1 6 win team was disqualifying? But now losing to 2 is a ok?? Lol

Love it

Yep....and many of same people (or in this case person) thought OSU should have been out the seasons they lost to Purdue and Iowa.

Here to eat my crow on the Bama vs SMU controversy.

Man did Bama look like hot garbage today. Gonna be a rough off-season for Coach DeBoer, if he is allowed to have one.

Lost to UM and 3 other losses? OSU fans think he should be fired for sure.

In 2011 the choice was between 1 loss Alabama (lost to #1 LSU) and one loss OKST (Lost to 6-6 Iowa State). More importantly, the prize was one of two spots in the playoff, not the 12th spot.
