Texas has played for 2 and won 1 natty since USC's vacated title in 04.

Yeah USC just has the most college players drafted into the NFL all time the most Pro Bowlers all time ,the Most players in the Hall of fame , tied for the most Heismans the most college football all Americans.
Your "criteria" is trash.

And only 5 nc's, in the poll era, to show for it.

You're making a good case for USC being the top Blue Blood in the category..."Underachieving
Programs."

USC has 830 wins all time. Florida State has 181 or so. Go back to the kids table.

Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, USC.

Penn State, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Florida, Auburn, FSU, etc. are tier 2 programs. Great programs, but they aren't blue bloods.

That was my point. I was wondering why SC didn't have 1,000 wins. Why did you guys
drop Pomona and Occidental from the schedule?

btw...we had 181 wins up to 1979. Considering we have 8 more wins than you
and a better winning percentage since 1967 (that's half-a-century)...we have much more than 181.
I apologize for the school growing up and stealing your thunder.

They stopped playing those colleges once they started playing Ohio State ,Michigan Notre dame and any other big boy who would do home and homes since the 30s. Tell me more about the late 70s when you guy started playing acutal football. LOL. Stealing our thunder. Thats pretty funny.

It interesting to think about how long a team needs to go without a title before they lose that distinction

It's more than just about 'titles' though.

Titles are an important ingredient, but not the sole requirement.

Minnesota stopped investing in their program in the 60's. For all practical purposes their fan following died out.

Really ?

1938 season
USC played

Alabama
Oregon State
Ohio State
Washington State
Stanford
Oregon
Cal
Washington
UCLA
Notre Dame
Duke

Almost 20 years later (1955) FSU played

NC state
VPI
Georgia
G tech
Villanova
Furman
The Citadel
Miss Southern
Tampa

So 20 years after USC was playing what would be a a good schedule today FSU was playing 6 schools that dont even play big boy football or dont even exist out of nine games. I bet you count those win though right? lol

It's not just going without a title. You can go without a title for a long time and still be a blue blood if you're getting 10 wins a season and playing in New Year's Day bowls, IMO. What you can't do is consistently fail to have a winning conference record or make bowl games.

I will point out that Tennessee has 13 SEC Championships which is second only to Alabama. Problem with Tennessee is that we have had a horrible run this century (since 2000).

In fact 2000-2010 is the only decade that Tennessee hasn't won an SEC Championship. It looks like that trend may continue in 2011 - 2020 unless we can get this next coaching hire correct.

I agree, and even then certain fans will vehemently claim that their team has done enough in the last decade (or two) to keep their status, while others will vehemently say they have not

I'll argue this one with you. While it certainly changed the game, Your backup, Gilbert or whatever his name was, brought you back in that game.

What really killed Texas in that game was that stupid play you ran before half that was picked off and ran in for a Touchdown my Dareus.

We were the favorite going into that game, so please don't assume Colt's injury is why you lost.

It's like Bama bitching about Bo's injury being the reason we lost to Clemson.

However, Texas is absolutely a Blue Blood. Hands down, no questions asked.
Fish Gilbert grape had the ball with three minutes and time outs down by three. Colt would have destroyed you.
