So Sanders not getting drafted through 3 rounds is clearly collision right?

To the people making fun of Cleveland for trading up for him...I totally disagree. The issue with Sanders is do you want his attitude and personality on your team. Do you think his presence is a negative. If you are a team that hasn't removed him from your draft board, meaning you are ok with him on the team and at training camp and standing on the sideline if that is what happens, then this is one of the better value picks of recent times. It's the 5th round! A lot of 5th round players won't make the game day roster or only will as a special teamer or an injury backup year one. All 53 men are important, but the point is that the risk of throwing away the pick vs the reward of potentially finding a starting QB or just playing him in the preseason and then trading him for a better pick is worth it for me - again, IF you don't think he is a negative presence and if you are ok with him on your team.
I could see that if the QB room wasn’t already really crowded. Is Sanders worth it to Cleveland? He isn’t going to be getting a lot reps in preseason and the moment Gabriel messes up you are going to have the cult following behind him putting pressure on him.

The Browns have to "keep" Deshaun Watson, but he will be on IR all year. If they released him now, he would cost them a nearly $100M cap hit immediately and they would be over the cap by too much to overcome. They are trying to keep him there throughout the remainder of his contract to try to recoup some of the lost money via insurance.

It is my firm believe and fervent hope that he never sees another snap in a Browns uniform.

But you say that as if they are expecting to hand Gabriel the starting job this year. I can't imagine that is the plan. So other than that it's all about competition. You have and injured Watson and two young QBs and two veterans. It's the most important position in football and the position that more decides your fate than any other by a ton. It would be silly to not have the best backup plan possible to me. The question may be more why did they take Gabriel in the 3rd in the first place? They had the opportunity to take any QB they wanted int the second if they really liked one. I read it as they really didn't like Gabriel all that much, so why tie your future to him without a backup plan

They took Gabriel in the 3rd because they wanted him. They didn’t want Sanders

Ya, I completely get the untenable sitch with Watson and agree it best if he never plays another snap for y'all , the post was more regarding drafting Gabriel FIRST - then Sanders as any type of rational QB strategy. Set up controversy for the team before a snap happens

Doesn't seem they have all that much faith in him though, does it
Plus, that line of thinking doesn't make any sense. They took Sanders also. So they took Sanders because they wanted him also :noidea:

Gabriel was picked by Berry and Stefanski.

Shedeur was picked by the owner. There is a great video showing the pick announcement with Stefanski and Berry sitting there with "I just sharted" looks on their faces. They knew how stupid it made them look.

The last QB the owner picked was Johnny Manziel.

With 4 other qb's and 1 selected before him in the same draft Sanders has a great opportunity to set all the grumblings aside and prove himself. It's now a challenge, something sitting right before him, this is where his dads advice should help him or should be expected. The maturity is there, it has to come out. Bigger problem for the kid is he's a Cleveland Brown, a team that notoriously goes through QB's

If Sanders is genuinely a late 2nd or early 3rd round talent then he has every chance to beat out Pickett and Gabriel. If he fails he'll be cut like a bunch of other 5th round and later picks who will end up being cut. If the Browns waste a 5th round pick and a $350K signing bonus it's not a big deal.

Big difference here tho. Manzel was one of two 1st round picks, the 22nd selection the Browns used in that draft. Taking Sanders with 144th pick is pretty much fail proof. If he pans out then he'll be a steal. If not, then it'll be no biggie, he was just a late round pick anyway.

If the owner steps in and forces the coach and gm to take a player they clearly don't want it is not nothing. This also means that the owner is likely to try and force them to play Sanders.

Browns had a clear plan, play a high floor low upside qb this year, then use their multiple 1sts in next year's qb heavy draft to get their guy. Owner stomped out all the planning of the professionals.

Sanders is inconsequential, the owner is an embarrassment.
