Dont be surprised to see Alex Smith play some H-Back/FB due to his blocking...he gets it done too....

This team struggled terribly on third down and goal line situations. Keeping Connor would have at least caused less anxiety for third and fourth and short. I'm just not sure what Orson brings to the team when he's the fourth best tight end.

Use Peko in goal line situations. We did that some last year, even with Presley on the roster, and he's better than Conner.

Stop kidding yourself. It was neat watching Peko plow Troy P several years ago, but Peko is not a better blocker than Conner. Conner has been doing it his entire life.

FB isn't rocket science on the goal line. Run fast and hard into a guy while the guy with the ball goes right behind you. It's not like we'd be having him running routes and going through multiple blocking schemes.

I watched the big finale tonight... wasn't that great. I expected a big ending like years past...

I felt for John Connor... I felt he got screwed... but I can't find that he was picked up by any other team off waivers yet.

Outside that... no big surprises..

Ridiculous.... If it were this easy, anyone could do it.

In the years the Bengals failed to keep a fullback we clearly learned that premise is simply not true.

This is true; however, the offense was geared towards having a true fullback in the running game. Today's offense has moved away from that. The total % of plays the FB will be involved in will be less than 15% by the end of the year.

Fullback has been replaced in this offense by another Tight End. Not sure how it's going to work in short yardage and goal line situations. Last year Green-Ellis was money on third and one, but had Pressley and Conner leading him on many of those plays.

I get the feeling Conner will be back if the TE's can't pull correctly.

of course, the Bengals are stupid enough to let a Tight end carry the ball too.

Peko at FB

After the game, Peko stated on the radio that he was simply trying to do it like John Conner. It was priceless. We kept Orson Charles and don't even activate him on gameday. Meanwhile, we use a starting DT in short yardage situations.

This will cost us.

I dunno. Conner is still on the street and we have Pressley on PUP.

They have options.

San Fran just signed a fullback today, and Conner is STILL on the street. Could it be we are the only people that are so enamored of him?

I'm not enamored with him - I'm enamored with the thought of having a guy that can actually play the position. And I'm confused why we need to keep a fourth tight end.

we run a lot of 2 TE sets... some without the back.

It was a tough decision clearly... but they felt they could get by without a full time FB and use one of the TE's in that slot or in this case... Peko?

Guess we'll see how sustainable it is... but it's clear the 2 TE sets are our strength.

I'm not worried at all about losing John Conner, but I am a Presley fan. If he is healthy in week seven, then I'd have little issue dropping Charles for Presley. You can sign guys like Conner of the street at any time, it's not like he is a Lorenzo Neal level run blocker. Charles was kept around for his pass catching ability.

I would be happy with Presley.

The 2 TE approach is a strength when the two tight ends are Eifert and Gresham. It would do dick if the two tight ends were Charles and Smith. There is no real reason for Charles to be on the roster - He was badly outplayed in training camp, has limited potential and isn't necessary on Sundays.
