Interesting episode last night..... The back-up quarterback job comes down to one guy that apparently has a 70 IQ (Skelton) and another guy that couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. It was hilarious watching the footage of the coaching staff talking about these two rejects. It's hard for me to believe that in our division the back-up QBs will be Tyrod Taylor (Baltimore), Bruce Gradkowski (Steelers), Jason Campbell (Browns) and either Skelton or Johnson for us. Campbell is decent option, but the rest of these guys stink. Are there truly this few people in the world that can play qb?

I actually really like Taylor. I think he will end up being the best of the bunch.

I actually like this about Bernard. To me it shows that he isn't worried about what looks the best or what people think about him. It shows maturity to me. Seems like a guy that won't get into trouble.

Another example of the Bengals reducing their knucklehead quotient. I believe their improved success in the last couple of years is no coincidence considering the improved drafting for character over the last four years or so.

If we were playing a pick up game in the park, they'd be the ones you'd want on your team.

70 IQ must be an exaggeration, people with 70 IQ are basically retarded.

If you could put Johnson's understanding of the playbook in Skelton's brain, he would be a good backup QB.

You can learn a playbook, it is really hard to learn accuracy. You either have that gift or you do not typically.

You can tie accuracy in with knowing the playbook, though. Knowing where your WR should be, and knowing the drop, and the count on which to throw the ball, it can all be traced back to knowing the playbook.

Now, does that mean if someone knows the playbook, they'll be accurate? No, of course not. But I would argue it's a lot harder to be accurate not knowing, than the other way around.

I like Skelton's arm strength and Johnson's mobility. Neither are exactly comforting, though, if Dalton, questionable as he is himself, goes down.

I guess that's true. After all, this guy learned the playbook.....

The more I watch the more I realize that Taylor Mays is an idiot! He needs to stop worrying about hypothetical super powers and more about his playbook and improving his coverage skills. Last night was the second time in three weeks that he's been caught discussing the topic and both times were either at practice or during a game. Pay attention you simpleton!

Now we get to see Mays is just as much of a chump off the field as he is on it.

I think it's interesting that there hasn't been any footage of Rex Burkhead. He's clearly a guy that many of our fans are curious about, he has a national reputation and he's in an interesting roster battle.

Overall I thought this year's series was less entertaining than 2009, but interesting to watch. I was again surprised to see that there was zero coverage of Rex Burkhead in camp. The dude just met the president a few months ago -- You'd think he'd be considered one of the more compelling rookies. Also, of the players cut, they didn't show any footage of Boom.... Wonder if the coaches had something to do with some of the footage that got in and some of the stuff they didn't want other teams to see.

That was tough to see John Conner cut. By all accounts and even by the own admission of the coaches, he was a much better fullback than Orson Charles. Heck, even when Charles made the team the first thing the coaches did was show him footage of John Conner so he could learn how to block!!

Sucked to see Jayson DiManche make it over Bruce Taylor. I was admittedly cheering for the Hokie to make the team, but impressive that we had 2 undrafted LBs make it to final cuts (when they only kept 5 guys)

insanity is trying the same damn thing over again and expecting better results.

you have a new Running back, you need a fullback to block for him, not a hybrid back, you have enough weapons on offense now, you don't need to screw with it.

They probably think they are geniuses for trying something that doesn't work. Tebow would be a better H-back and Fullback than Orson Charles and he's unemployed.

Our offense is going to be primarily a one back set. Lots of double tight/double wide, lots of 3 WR sets, lots of motion. Conner didn't get beat out, he was a casualty of the offensive scheme we are going to run.

I can't believe that doofus made the team over Shaun Prater. Constantly misses assignments, bad instincts, and lights up his own team mates more than opposing ball carriers.

I believe Reedy pointed out that last year the Bengals used a FB on 20% of running plays, and that was expected to decrease even further this year. I think the expectation is that the FB will be limited to mostly GL situations and maybe some short yardage stuff, but with 3 TE sets, they felt, I guess, that the versatility that Charles can give them out of the backfield was more valuable.

Either way, whoever they kept isn't going to be seeing a ton of time on the field.

They also said Charles was better on ST than Connor, which is where he will see most of his playing time anyways.
