No, the Devils did not make a mistake in getting rid of him. He's a stubborn coach with no intensity. Brent Sutter was a much better replacement.
He has his one system that works very well in the regular season and teams he coaches should always be making the playoffs. He got badly out-coached by Boucher and you can even argue that the Habs coaching staff did better than he did. The success he had this year is mostly due to Thomas' remarkable play and the fact that the system allows Thomas to succeed.
I think he's a good coach, BUT don't forget three rounds ago everyone was talking about how the Bruins were going to fire him until they won game 7 against Montreal.
I never thought it was a good idea to fire him when the Devils did. That said, no way we could have won the cup that year. Julien gets credit from me, because obviously he deserves the championship he won. Still, Boston had the right mixture of skill and grit, not to mention a hot goalie in Thomas.
It was the second round, lost to the Senators in 5. I remember because I made the 6 hour trip with my friend (a sens fan), ended up being the last game at CAA. Bittersweet, but much more on the bitter side haha
I dunno man I kinda miss the old gal! Tailgate rocked. and whenever xanadu opens its going to blow anything Newark can offer as far as pre and post game stuff. Not to mention the 20$ last row at caa are better then the tiny seats with no leg room
I liked CAA but its time had come. In the games I've traveled to in both Arenas, surprisingly I found that the rock is easier to get to. Maybe it's only because I always somehow missed the exit on the turnpike every time I went to CAA. I know attendance hasn't really drastically improved but at least the rock is easier to sell out by virtue of nearly 1,500 less seats
Yeah the rock is nice don't get me wrong....it just isn't as open as other arenas I've been to. You ever try walking around the top during intermission? It's like caa
