It does. He isn't worth 10 million dollars a year. The issue wasn't draft pick cost, it was salary cost.

I agree with you that he's overpaid for what he brings to the table, but the whole situation is WAY more than just about the money. There are one or two teams every year that overpay for certain players -- and the fact that not a single one was willing to take a 1300 yard receiver for a bag of doughnuts says a lot about not only his value, but his character and baggage as well.

His campaigning for a new contract after each season because he pisses away money like its candy doesn't help his cause either. Meanwhile you got guys playing thier hearts out on a rookie/entry level contract getting paid league minimum and you don't hear a peep outta them!

Exactly. He's a "me first" player that has questionable work ethic, questionable associations, and cares more about his own personal gain than the team gain.

This is the same guy that pouted and acted like a petulant child every time he wanted a new deal -- and it showed on the field that he wasn't playing at 100%. His shitty attitude, first and foremost, is why he's not an Eagle anymore.

They knew for a fact they could get him for less and without providing draft pick compensation simply by waiting. He's going to take the best deal on the table and it won't be what he got in Philly.

Now that he is a free agent, each team has to bid against every other team that's willing to take a flyer on him. If any team legitimately wanted him, they would have burned a low-round pick to get him and completely avoid any potential bidding war. The fact that none did this is extremely telling.

Focusing solely on the money aspect is a very myopic viewpoint.

The bidding won't get near 10 million. A bidding war is still cheaper.

You're still (willfully?) missing the point. If he's up "for sale" -- then there's no guarantee that you'll land him. If another team thought he had ANY semblance of value, they'd have made a dirt-cheap deal for him. This indicates that not only was he overpaid, but that other teams don't want to put up with his baggage.

They want him at a reasonable price. If they were willing to pay 10mil, they would be guaranteed to get him, because no one else is.

He is not worth 10 mil a year and that is why no one wanted to trade for him. Period. 10mil isn't dirt cheap.

It is.

If a team is not willing to pay him ten million, which is very overpriced, why would they give up a draft pick to get him for ten million? He's made it absurdly clear renegotiation wasn't on the table.

Calm down. Chip sometimes makes you scratch your head when it comes to disciplinary actions and how he manages his roster, but one thing is certain, the dude wins games. He had issues to deal with at Oregon and he dealt with them in ways that made local media go crazy and some fans early on questioning his leadership. By the end of his tenure, the fans trusted every move he made regarding anything and he still made the local media go nuts.

You will learn to trust Chip if you haven't already considering what he did for the Eagles in his first year.

Also on a side note; I think eagles draft either Colt Lyerla or De'Anthony Thomas. But, I think more likely to see them take Lyerla. That kid wont screw up under CHip.
