Meh.
100 games at AA he had an .834 OPS.
Only 34 plate appearances at AAA.

But the media is hyping the shit out of this guy because he apparently is Mr February. Typical overrated Red Sox prospect. The Yankee and Red Sox prospects get the red carpet treatment and more often than not are total busts.

Say hello to this generation's Sam Horn.

I'm excited for his power, but I don't expect much in the batting average department unless he really cuts down on the swing and miss in his game. there's also the question of where he plays, though I don't expect Devers to stay at 3rd base for too much longer and Martinez is at DH at least for this year. I don't know if his bat will play well enough at 1st. Dalbec has a little more risk with the strikeouts IMO, but there might be more power potential plus he has a good arm suited for 3rd base.

Chavis doesn't make the top 132 on Fangraphs and they rate him as a 45 FV prospect (though they list him as a 1st baseman).

Not for nothing, but the Yankees had #2 and #3 in ROY votes in 2018, Judge won it in 2017, and Gary Sanchez was the runner-up in 2016.

I'd say the current crop of Yankee graduated prospects are doing just fine, thanks.

Remember when Dionner Navarro was going to be the next HOF catcher.

And of course, we can't forget about the man/myth/legend Jesus Montero.

I believe I called him the next Edgar.

I think Montero's career would have been entirely different if he had stayed in the Yankees organization. Mariners didn't do that kid any favors.

Chavis hitting .333/.460/.725 so far. He does have some contact issues and his BA is held up by a high BABIP, so I expect the BA to come down considerably. The power looks pretty legit but the patience has been a pretty big surprise so far (17.5% walk rate, and he drew 5 of those walks after battling out of a 0-2 count).

ZiPS projects him to hit .251/.315/.475, which I'd be pretty happy with.

The offense in general has been much better the last 2 weeks with Chavis/Betts/Benintendi/Bogaerts/Devers hitting very well. Would be nice if J.D.'s power showed up.

Chavis hit .248/.331/.457 in May, though he's been struggling the last 2-3 weeks. The walks have gone down and he has been K'ing more. contact is an issue

he just cant hit high fastballs. they throw 97 by his shoulders and he cant resist.
The Jeff Francoeur syndrome. Does he also have trouble laying off low and outside sliders?
