I will say this - I really like Harmon.

Im assuming he said that based on what the nextgen stats are telling him. We know Norman and Kerrigan are good players and on top of that the stats he looked at have Murphy and Smith being very good as well which isnt really ridiculous to me since we pretty much know Murphy played pretty well this year and Im a huge Preston Smith fan.

Maybe theres more hope than we think if we can shore up the DL and Manusky knows what hes doing.

Yeah, and it seems he was just looking at pass rushing only. Still basing his findings on what seems to be his only criteria. How many yards a pass rusher is away from, or close to, a QB when he passes the ball. Doesn't say really reliable to me.

Then again. I remember when pro football focus or football outsiders rated all the OLBs in Rak's FA year. By their formula Rak was one of the best, if not the best pass rushing OLB in the game. Their formula went something like this. Amount of times an OLB pass rushed a QB on a pass att/amount of times an OLB dropped back into coverage on a pass att.

They formulated that Rak was dropping back into coverage much more than any OLB considered to be a top pass rusher. Therefore the percentage that he sacked the QB when he did pass rush was higher than that of any other OLB. While his actual sack total wasn't as high as other OLBs.

They used that in large part to list him as the #1 OLB in FA that year and the #3 player in FA regardless of position that year. So what happens? The reg season rolls around and Rak has a total of a .5 sack in 7 games before he injures himself and is layed up for the rest of the season.

After that I started viewing these outfits and whatever metrics they were using a little more dubiously. But you also have a point. As there's no harm in taking a more [ppositive outlook towards Harmon's findings.

Yea there's definitely flaws and weird stuff that comes out of some of it. Unfortunately every measure we have for football has some pretty big flaws.

True. I do appreciate that people have taken this type of interest in football though. So while I pretty much hate fantasy football with a passion. I have to concede that's probably the thing most responsible for it.

Freakin blows my mind that sacks weren't an official stat till the 80s.

I loooove fantasy football and will stand by that it can teach you a ton and that dedicated fantasy football players are some of the most knowledgeable fans you can find. But it seems to get a bad rap.

I just can't stand it when I hear say some shit like, <A Redskins fan watching the Skins/Boys game) Elliot's my fantasy team RB so while I hope/want the Skins to beat the Cowboys. I need or want Elliot to go off.

That just nuts me up and it doesn't have to be a Redskins fan or involve my fave team.

Fantasy football and real football have no correlation. What part of understanding how the game is played is involved in fantasy football?

Thats just not true.

If you understand the game youre much more likely to succeed at fantasy football. If youre excellent at fantasy football you probably understand the game better than most.

We will have to agree to disagree ehb. I see nothing at all that correlates to how the game is played and what people understand about plays, technique or anything else. It is an amateur GM game. Great for fans and I understand why so many folks like it. As long as you are having fun that is all that matters. :suds:

I heard Richie Pettibone interviewed and I was surprised to say the Redkskins defensive problems start with a lack of pass rush. Considering their run defense was routinely gutted like a fish I was kind of surprised, especially as they were 10th. They need an inside push for sure. I also heard some say Trent Murphy was their best pass rusher. I always thought it was Kerrigan.
