Smith gets offseason to work on mechanics

Not going to hold my breath or anything since I can't count the number of times I've heard ballplayers working on mechanics in the offseason, best shape of their life, or have a fresh perspective or something like that and still suck.

But I will say it's definitely not bad news especially if he can actually get those cleaned up.

I am very happy to read he is working on mechanics that will improve his velocity. If he can improve his velocity and his accuracy, he will have all the physical tools necessary to be an elite QB. And, if his improved velocity and accuracy has the added effect of improving his confidence, well then we could be on to something.

In his 8th year in the league Shaquille O'neal worked on his free throw mechanics. He saw the same guru Alex is seeing. I don't recall but I think it helped him complete 90% of his free throws that year.

Color me an HF, but Shaq, at NO POINT IN HIS CAREER, shot 90% from the charity stripe.

Let's not compare throwing a football to making free throws. A free throw is something a junior high girl can do successfully. Throwing an NFL caliber pass is something very few humans on earth are even capable of doing; much less doing it very well.

My point has nothing to do with Alex Smith but here are Shaq's areer free throw percentages (highest to lowest):

'02-'03 - 62.2
'08-'09 - 59.5
'92-'93 - 59.2
'10-'11 - 55.7
'01-'02 - 55.5
'93-'94 - 55.4
'98-'99 - 54.0
'94-'95 - 53.3
'97-'98 - 52.7
'99-'00 - 52.4
'00-'01 - 51.3
'07-'08 - 50.3
'09-'10 - 49.6
'07-'08 - 49.4
'03-'04 - 49.0
'95-'96 - 48.7
'96-'97 - 48.4
'05-'06 - 46.9
'04-'05 - 46.1
'06-'07 - 42.2

I thought it was freakin hilarious

I also got a mechanics guru in the offseason to help win the lottery... and with sock drawer organization.

I'll give Smith a little benefit of the doubt as this is his first full offseason with actual competent offensive coaching and not having to learn a new system but my expectations are low.

The way I see it is any improvement even if it's a little will be better than nothing and a couple more big passes completed could be the difference between winning and losing a game.

yes, we should all expect a little improvement just by another year in the system. also a little improvement because he still has a good
TEAM around him.

We don't set the bar high Alex. Just hide behind our run game, defense, and special teams.

Or your head finding its way out of his rectum.

i'm just being a realist and i've been right so far. basically every qb ppl have wanted ended up being complete garbage compared to smith.
