Aldon barely played until what his 4th game? I don't recall Reggie's playing time early on.

Nice! If our coverage holds up he will get there!! Go 49ers!!

Here is the shocker of the day. Right now, 49ers are ranked 4th in the league for passing defense (Yds/Gm) while only having 8 sacks (18th in the league). So it would seem passing defense is doing its job but our pass rush needs to step it up.

That's not the entire story. They're in the top 8 right now for hurries and pressures (unofficially). And I'm not personally satisfied with that because you'd like to consistently bring the QB down. I'm just saying that to stop at sacks is only looking at half the story, if even half.

Sounds like we are one step late on our pass rush as far as sacks are concerned. However, looking (and thinking) more closely at/about the numbers - it would be Hits, Hurries & Pressures that would have a positive impact on coverage - not sacks.

I wouldn't say it's a case of us being late on the pass rush but offenses game plan to get the ball off quickly because of our pass rush.

We're actually tied with Houston for #1 in Pass YDS/A at 6.0 which tells me that QBs are hitting the quick underneath stuff because they don't have time to allow the play to develop for the bigger play.

Your argument is quite plausible as a stand-alone, but the correlation is weakened by the other teams - you could be right though.

The Defense had 50 sacks a couple of years ago, they led the NFL in TFL a couple of years ago, last year led the NFL in TO. This year our points per game is lower, they are doing the job, but there is a direct connection between sacks and turnovers. Go 49ers!!
