Gives us an extra $2.5 million on this years cap. No extension, just rolled money into the last three years of his current deal. Might expect one more move like this, or maybe a extension of Rak coming. IM 50/50 on that though. Would rather see that held off til mid to late season to see if he stays healthy and produces first.

this is to get under the cap, not to make room to sign someone fyi.

Shame Winfield retired... maybe he just felt like he didnt have it anymore... surprising

We were already under the cap with all 53. And i wasnt pressed to get Winfield. this late in the game I dont think he would have been that big of a help.

We were $2.5 million below the cap before this move. This puts us about $5 million below the cap. And again, this late in the game Im fine with us not going to the waiver wire. No one we picked up today would be really useful until week 5 or later in any case. If you are expecting a starter off the waiver wire a week before the first game... your team is likely in trouble any way.

I think they just want cushion. Situation could arise where they end up making a trade involving Pat White for someone who may have a larger contract. Or they just want that breathing room incase an injury happens and they need to have that space. Not something you want to scramble last minute to do.

Never saw them signing a 36 year old vet. Agree with Shark, we are good where we are at with people who know the system and the playbook.

You need some space under the cap because of injury moves that will need to made during the season.

If this team can win 9 or 10 games again this season playing $18 million less than everyone else you have to give Shanahan and Allen a ton of credit.

this makes a trade more likely to happen :suds:

come on man... just stop. We arent scavenging other teams left overs for once. THIS IS GOOD THING!!! Leave the waiver wire scrounging to the teams that need to waiver wire scrounge. Are we perfect?? No. But we are solid right now. No one we could sign right now would help for the first 5 games of the season. We dont need to start making trades when we have a team coming off a 10-6 season that knows the playbook on both sides. Is relatively healthy compared to our division. And is going into the season with duely deserved confidence for once.

they are most likely getting ready to trade Kirk Cousins

No. It was already reported long ago that the Redskins would have to rework someones contract when they cut down to the 53 man roster in order to stay under the cap.
