Sheehan and Snider are saying the Skins question his commitment to football and that's why they didn't pick it up.

The Washington Post's Nicki Jhabvala reports the Commanders have declined to pick up EDGE Chase Young's fifth-year option.

Young will be a free agent next March unless he and the team come to terms on a long-term deal this summer or during the season. That seems unlikely unless Young, 24, stays healthy in 2023 after playing in just 11 games over the past two seasons due to an ACL tear. Young, a first round pick by Washington in 2020, got off to a fast start in the NFL, recording 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries (including one returned for a touchdown) as a rookie. He has 1.5 sacks since the start of the 2021 season. Young is likely going to play for another team in 2024, and might not have much of a market unless he returns to form. ESPN's Dan Graziano said Young could be traded during the NFL Draft.

So you draft a guy number 2 overall , pass on qbs , and his commitment is questionable? When are scouts going to be held accountable

the funny thing is RR said he was untradeable last year when we were looking for Qb's. I dont buy his commitment is questionable. It depends on what offer we get.

Hopefully that happens when the team gets a new owner.

Young had a very good rookie season and there was reason to be excited. He started out year 2 working on his own away from they team. I know it is voluntary but it just isn't a good look. He followed that up with a very poor 2nd season. If he wants money he needs to do what Payne did. Only fair.

Doubt that's true if they get a really good offer I think he is gone
You might get a 3rd for him , think about that a number 2 overall worth only a 3rd at best . Bad business

Smart decision that will probably work out in the same way as Payne did: if CY balls out, he’ll get paid by the Commanders, and if he doesn’t, he’ll be looking for a new team next offseason.
if he’s middling but shows promise, he’ll probably be franchised.

Everybody else on the planet has to earn their keep, and so should CY.

Washington still has control for two more years if they want it with Young. He will make $11 mill this year and they could tag him for about $21 mill next year using the tag. No matter how he plays this year. If he sucks who knows what you can get, if he is great you can sign him long term. Based on his injury and his play the past two years I think they did the right thing in not taking the 5th year option. He needs to earn it.

Chase Young has been a bust, not sure he even starts this year, admit another draft mistake was made and move on.
