This topic came up in the SF/SD GDT, but I thought it would be a better discussion here...

I made up an alignment assuming MLB were to abolish the AL and NL and go uniform on the DH (I prefer no DH, but that is an argument for a different thread).

I like this alignment, except for 2 items.

1) The West does not have a large market team. Would this be a deal-killer?

2) The Mets and Phils are not in a division together. I am not sure how to fix this issue.

I would be for a more radical approach. Contraction of 2 teams plus going back to the old playoff system with complete geographical division.

Franchises are worth too much for contraction. If anything, they would expand to even things up. But this is just rehashing your thread from a few days ago.

There is also WAY too much money in the playoffs and the payoff chance to limit the POs to only 4 teams. With your alignment, most teams would be done by early August and attendance would plummet. That won't happen.

hate your groupings. if you only have one league it wont matter how many divisions you have so you could break it into 5. or something like this for 6.

Thoughts?

Your regional idea makes more sense than what they have now. Tradional rivalries will just adjust. SF still has that ATL, Stl, Cin rivalry feel sometimes. I think the same will happen to the Mets and Phi if they switch divisions.

You know my thoughts on the DH...

My first pass-through had Tex and HOU in the West, but that made the SE division awkward, and made it tough to have the Cards and Cubs in the same division.

This is almost exactly what Jim Bowden proposed a couple of years ago. I was for it then and I'm for it now.

Im completely against it.... Unless of course they canned the DH (but im assuming the opposite would happen)

Also, i doubt anyone would want to see this happen and NOT have boston, ny and philly together. Its really NY's two greatest rivals in general no way you could not put them together.

Youd probably need the Nats / Orioles in the Southeast

I dont hate that tabasco ... I feel like the NL East rivalries dont get enough respect. But i would really hate to not be in a division with Atlanta, NYM or DC

Probably a lot of people nationally might not see it that way. Though i know the people in the respective fanbases do
