35 years and yes it is. That guy sucks but it feels like that guy has like 7 game winning hits the last 2 years vs the Cubs and I think half his homers have been vs Chicago too lol
Its not a bad answer but Pujols was basically the same guy statistically except over a much longer period of time and someone who was consistent against a lot of other teams.

That's not necessarily the nature of the question

We pretty much sucked most of those years so I guess the losses don't stick with you when you go 74-88

It isn't but its more rational to fear the great player over the....fortunate one.

Exactly. That's why Harper isn't number 1 for me as a Phillies fan

In terms of irrational fear, David Freese has a batting average of at least .700 on games I'm actually watching. It was cool when he was on the Cardinals but whenever I see him come up I just know he is getting a hit.

No, I agree completely. I'll take the Phillies facing 2015 Randal Grichuk over 2001-2010 Pujols any day of the week. But the thread was pointedly directed at talking about guys who've killed your team that you don't want to face again (or wouldn't if they were still playing/in their prime). Everyone knows Pujols is better than Grichuk, so it's not really an interesting discussion.

I think a ball he hit gave Nelson Cruz the shits once in a game in 2011....

Yeah, it's also interesting to look at it the other way. Like "which player on your team who wasn't necessarily the best do you feel most confident having at the plate". For me it was always Pat Burrell, especially against the Mets. I remember that one year, (2002 I think) where he just crushed them.

Seemed none of our pitchers could ever get Vlad Guerrero out when he was an Expo.

Mike Redman(or Redmond, the old Marlins catcher) hit like .470 against Tom Glavine.

During his prime, Ryan Howard owned the Braves, I would be happy if he just got a single or a walk in his prime, and even after his best days were gone, if he ever made contact, it was a good bet it was leaving the yard against us.

Chase Utley was always a major pain in the ass too.

With current players, it's Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman. Seemed like they batted .800 against us last season.

Off the top of my head it always seems to be an Angel.

Howie Kendrick and Cole Calhoun.

Of course, I'm a Mariners fan, so I'm sure the actual list is far longer.

Off the top of my head, Carlos Pena seemed like he really fucked us hard late in games when he was legit

Because he was on the Red Sox the answer everyone wants to give is Ortiz, but we are all forgetting what Miguel Cabrera would do to Rivera.

Obscure guy that always seemed to hit well against the Yankees was Dan Pasqua

Probably Manny vs the Yankees, particularly when he was with Boston....

With Boston, he hit .345 with 36 HR and 101 RBI in 123 games vs the Yanks.

I can't find stats to back it up, but Thurman Munson used to beat the shit out the Brewers back in the day.

Encarnacion (30 home runs in 116 games) and Bautista (43 home runs in 148 games) have done some damage against the Sox over the years. Encarnacion has hit 17 home runs at Fenway in 53 games and Bautista's hit 26 in 73 games at Fenway.

Danny Pasqua! Hometown boy they traded away who used to haunt them every chance he got. Good call!
