With the new alignment coming next year and inter-league play a major part of MLB now is it time for the DH to go away?

One way or the other ... both leagues or neither

I agree with this. That said, the players union won't allow the dh to go away. So the NL should join the modern era and employ the dh. Then watch their pitching stats inflate when they have to pitch to 9 actual hitters.

Or AL pitchers could learn what it's like to be in the batters box again.

Again, the players union would never allow the dh to be done away with.

I don't know. They'll have to do something and like other unions the player's union doesn't have the clout it had just a few years ago. Especially with some teams' finances in the shape they're in.

The DH should be done away with. It was an invention of Charlie Finley, who also introduced orange (base)balls and the designated runner. He wanted to turn baseball into a circus, imo, and the DH is the remaining dancing bear.

Well, in all truthfulness the Athletics did suck back then and he was desperate to get fannies in the seats...

Yes. The DH spot is for wusses.

I voted yes, but I'm much more fearful that the DH will be added to the NL before the DH is ever seriously considered being removed from the AL.

Well, I guess they sucked after their run. But back then there was a rule that the GM of the winning WS team could propose a new rule. A's did win 3 MLB championships in a row, which allowed Finley to take advantage of that. The A's were champs in '73 when, Finley helped push through the DH:

On March 26, 1969, Major League Baseball nixed the idea for the time being. Like other experimental baseball rule changes of the 1960s and '70s, the DH was embraced by Oakland A's owner Charlie O. Finley. On January 11, 1973, Finley and the other American League owners voted 8–4 to approve the designated hitter for a three-year trial run.[54]

I haven't seen it yet, I was driving all day but hope to catch it on the midnight sportscenter. He came close in Pittsburgh.

Oh. It was nice. It was a hanging breaking ball and he just waited on it like an everyday hitter and clobbered it.

Yeah, but before that they really sucked...had won anything since the 30's...I think I still have baseball cards from when they were the Kansas City Athletics.

Get rid of the DH. If a player can't play the field, he shouldn't be playing the game.

I see your point, but rest assured the dh isn't going anywhere.
