after several years of not making it to the playoffs, I think the Brown family would see the last 3 years as a rousing success. How much of that success which gets attributed to Andy Dalton is another matter. We had the framework for a playoff team in place when Carson was the QB.

I would love Mettenberger, but I think we are pissing into the wind if we really are to believe that Mike Brown is ready to admit the Dalton experiment a failure. Anyone who can convince him of that, please make that your next immediate assignment. In Dalton, Mike Brown sees a guy who can get him to the playoffs year after year and will come on the cheap. He won't see they guy who has fallen on his face in three straight playoff games including the home game. This is the team who signed Josh fucking Johnson to be the backup. Are they really interested in seeing Dalton face a real challenge for his job?

Wow...I wouldn't say that being an outsider, but I really believe it. A former UGA grad and former Bengal did sportstalk radio for a while (Pollack)...he said didn't realize how cheap Brown was until after his career was over...he went up to Flowery Branch (Falcons HQ) as a member of the media actually and said everything looked 10 year older in CIN in comparison, practice facility, weight room the whole 9...I actually thought Lewis came back on the condition that facilities were going to improve...bottom line feeling was Mike Brown being cheap is not a rumor.

To your point though...different sport too, but I long felt the ATL Braves had the exact formula for DIV title success and that's all they really wanted. That was enough to keep the Ted with 30k a night and a run in the post season...a short one most of the time.

just saw Marvin on the news saying he's 100 percent behind Andy and that they've put the game behind them, he said it sucks today but it will be OK tomorrow.

Three years ago Marvin said he would need certain concessions to remain as coach. He was promised little, given nothing, and still signed his extension. He is still here because of his obedience, and his backing Dalton is simply following the company line. We'll never know if Marvin actually thinks differently.

Beggars can't be choosers..... There were also reports back then that Marvin's agent was peddling him to open positions in SF and other places. Apparently other owners were not lining up to hire him away even though his contract was up.

Marvin is a decent coach. His players play hard in all games. But he has some serious gameday flaws and I think there are plenty of coaches that would have love to take our roster into a playoff game against SD.

More on that point....

It dawns on me that yesterday's strategy for SD should have been OUR strategy. We were the team with a shaky qb and a dominating defense. Yet, they were the team that threw it only 16 times.

Well, under the new CBA, Mike might be willing to go for another young qb. It used to be that you had to pay these young qbs a lot of money. Now you get the first four years for super cheap. Maybe he lets Andy play out his deal and fail while having the next young guy in the wings?

I realize it's not happening -- Just mentioning that it's not out of the question due to money (as it would have been in the past).

This is ideal. Draft a QB in the first round and let him compete with Dalton in Dalton's final year. That and fire Marvin and promote Zimmer.

Marvin and Dalton both suck too often.

I'm really hoping Brown and Zimmer have some kind of handshake deal going on to make him coach since next year Marvin's contract is up. Draft a qb, let him sit and learn, and then Marvin can take "his qb" out the door with him to obscurity

Marvin's not going anywhere. He'll be extended here within a few weeks.

When we can say the Bengals have lost their last wildcard round playoff match (for awhile), it will be a pretty damned cold day in Cincinnati.

It's pretty cold out there.

We need, at minimum, to bring in a qb that can actually compete for the starting job with Andy. Andy needs to be on a short leash. Who is that qb? How do we find him? FA or draft? I don't know.

Damn good post kramer

The FA market is a mess. The most intriguing candidates are Matt Casssel, Josh Freeman, Josh McCown or Michael Vick. That's a shit platter right there.

Drafting a qb would be interesting -- It might make the team completely implode. Then again, this team might implode anyway if they lose all confidence in coaching and qb play.

Vick would be fuckin explosive in this offense with our oline.....DAMN people dont see this...sad

It actually makes perfect sense to draft a QB this year.

You don't have to extend Dalton right now, you can let him play out his contract.

You draft a guy you like, if you can, and let him sit and learn the offense.

Dalton will play out his final year, and either do enough to earn an extension, or not. If Dalton asks for ridiculous amounts of money, you already have a guy with 1 year in the system, so you won't be completely starting from scratch. If you are able to work out a good deal, then you have a decent backup that in another year or 2 you can trade for a low round draft pick.

Eitherway, you are protected. Esepcially, as you said, the salary for a rookie QB now is minimal.

AND THEIR FUCKING CHEAP! DO IT! FO shouldnt even be discussing this shit! If this Metter kid is there TAkE HIS ASS! Set him behind Dalton and Vick for a season.....

I bet ANDY HAS THE SEASON of his life or he crumbles and we move on!

This is what I see, and it is sad:

2010 - 12 games played (injury) 62% comp, 3,018 yards, 21 TD, 6 INT, rushed for 676, 9 TD, 4 Fumbles

Not a bad year. His "career" year, if you will.

Since then:

2011 - 13 games (injury) 59% comp, 3,308, 18 TD, 14 INT, 589 rush, 1 TD, 7 fumbles
2012 - 10 games (injury) 58% comp, 2,362, 12 TD, 10 INT, 332 rush, 1 TD, 7 fumbles
2013 - 7 games (injury AND beat out by Foles) 1,200 yards, 5 TD, 3 INT, 300 rush, 2 TD, 1 fumble

So, you want a guy who has played 16 games once. 15 games 3 times, and played in 12 or fewer games 6 times, with 4 of those being less than 10 games in a season?

A guy who's yet to top 3500 yards passing, decreasing comp%, increasing INT ratio, fumble issues when he does run, injury issues when he does run, and is getting older by the post, just reducing his ability to run and not sustain injury.

I do agree, as a fan, that the Bengals SHOULD bring in a QB (via F/A or draft) but it's not happening. If it were to happen, I don't think it should be Vick. Why sign a guy who is going to almost guarantee that Dalton is still going to start at least 5-8 games a year, even IF Vick were to play better, because he's gonig to be injured. Especially playing against some of the better, tougher, defenses in the NFL in the AFCN with the physical style of the Steelers and Ravens, and even the Browns defense (Defense is good, offense is not...lol).

We, the fans, all agree.

But the reality is, what it is.

Not even woth getting worked up over as a fan, because you KNOW, deep down, it's not happening.

We agree to disagree....You ai nt gonna sell me on Cassell, McCown or the others...you are POSTING starter numbers...if he comes in a back up role WITH OUR WEAPONS THE BEST OF HIS CAREER AND LIGHTS IT UP THEN WHAT! You know you shitted on me about Burfict mentioning Odell and Burfict is better....Keep shitting on me but If I get it right come man up and congrat me on it.
