I am just not happy with Gresham as my starting tight end and Miller won't be be playing right away. I'm wanting to pick up Winslow since he seems to be liked by Geno and the bucs cannot defend tightends. But my choices are dropping Josh Gordon or Hopkins. Miller is who I'm waiting on, and Gresham may be considered undroppable. the only other option is dropping B Powell but I believe he is gonna be an important part of the jets offense.

Gordon is Weeden's #1. But redzone wise, don't know if he fulfill what you are looking for. He had a lot of big plays last year though.

dropping anyone on a decent team for the Jet's TE..I vote no, 5 million times

Besides..what evidence do you have to support that the Buc's haven't fixed their TE issues from last year? Bland vanilla defensive gameplans in preseason?

For some reason I get the Bengals and Bucs confused, too. That might be why I think Bernard is Doug Martin.

Seriously, if you drop Gordon you will never see him again except when he starts against you.

The better option is try to trade Gordon for a TE you like better. Throw in Gresham if it helps.

If your mind is set and the only choice is either Gordon or Hopkins - then select Hopkins. He's on a run-first team with a diminishing QB, whose first three pass options are Foster/Tate, or Andre, or Owens. Hopkins is the fourth option.

But I echo Treff - just avoid the Jets. Even if they need to pass cause they're playing from behind, don't expect many TD's.

The tightend usually benefits from more targets due to the receiver being covered more. The bucs signed Revis and he is likely gonna be on Kerley or Hill and that leaves Geno to use his feet or aim at Winslow. Also, Winslow used to play for the bucs. So there's some motivation there on his part. And teams that used their tightends enough their tightends played well fantasy wise against the jets.
Furthermore, Gresham plays the bears week 1, a team that can stop tightends. Eifert is available as well but again its the bears. My week 1 matchup is favorable for my team, but Gresham's numbers late last year looked terrible.

And its the bucs, I'm not buying them as a super bowl contender anytime soon. And they are just not that dangerous enough to shut down a offense. You don't go from 32nd in pass defense last year to suddenly top five.

I got ten bucks that says after week one, playing Geno Smith and the Jet's..they'll be top five..for at least one week

Andre has a injury history.................thats the big problem. And can he be healthy two seasons straight. The jets drafted Hopkins because Walter wasnt cutting it as a no.2 and couldnt step up when Andre was covered. Also, Idk if Daniels will have the same year either. He's also been injury prone.

AvgJoe - As a bears fan, wouldn't you almost say that the exact opposite has been true recently (past 2-3 seasons)?

I thought Finley only had good games against CHI, and that TEs in general typically faired well, since most running lanes were jammed up, and WRs were blanketed. If my memory serves me, I was thinking that TE would be the only offensive position that I would WANT to start vs CHI DEF

maybe a kicker...

Finley and Rudolph both had decent games, but were also shut down in the other, Cody Fleener had a good game week one, for whatever week 1 is worth. Vernon Davis and Jason Witten however hit 'em pretty good. But most other box scores I looked at the TE's had 2 or less catches

Overall i'd have to agree that last year, the Bears were better than decent against TE's, with the only two real exceptions being elite level TE's

I'd tend to agree that in Lovie's regime the Bears version of the Tampa 2 was to allow short yardage - just to not give up the big play, or the TD. So from what I can remember, the TE and slot guys were able to do some damage.

Not sure about how that played out on a game-by-game basis for each TE?

And I'm not sure if the new D under Trestman/Tucker will follow that philosophy?

Divisions rivalries tend to have different game plans but these tightends in general didnt have the best matchups against the bears last year
Cook
Olsen
Daniels
...........I think at home they did stop tightends. Now the Cook situation could be more a relection of the titans and their reaction to the bears. I do recall Witten and Lewis having good games, Davis as well but I think Witten's numbers came in late. So maybe its on the road tightends did better against them. The Olsen one is alarming because Newton looked to him and Schaub looked at Daniels.

I am trying however to figure out who the steelers are gonna start before Miller returns.

I'm a Bengals fan and Gresham has looked great this preseason. He's always had all the tools but he can turn invisible on the field. Tyler Eifert will also be a player and a consistent red zone threat. My advice, if you like Gordon stand pat with Gresham. Why would Gresham be undroppable?

I only agree with the first sentence. If you're dropping someone to pick up a TE, to replace the TE you don't want, it's the TE you don't want that you would drop.

And are you seriously looking at the (vs)TE defense rankings from last year to make a decision? Teams change and situations are different. There is no evidence of the Bucs "not being able to defend TE's" in 2013.

Gresham undroppable? Not in any league I can think of would that be plausible.

Oh, and do not drop Josh Gordon.

Or drop Miller.

Dropping Gordon is not the right move. Especially when you are dropping him for a 3rd mediocre TE.

Well I ended up finding a tightend.............that is if Thomas proves to be a constant target by Manning. I do want to point out Winslow did indeed do well against the bucs. I am considering dropping Gresham, but the guy was a 9th round option. That makes it hard to drop players ranked there. I dropped Miller to pick up L Bell. I need help with receiving for now. Week 1 though it was my tightend, QB, defense, and kicker that won for me by 1 point. Tightend is stable for now, but receiving could be a problem unless Gordon emerges as a true no.1 but after week 1 Idk if I can buy browns offense. Miami is not that good against the pass.
