i am entertained by how people want to see him as a 2 way player... His bat doesn't seem ready as he has struck out over 1/4 of his PA in JAPAN... Just imagine what he would do vs better talent...

His bat looks like he belongs in the minor leagues still, or in the NATIONAL league as a SP who bats only when he starts...

I have no idea why but it seems that every superstar Japanese player who comes on the market generates this sort of buzz. If it isn't them, it's the latest Cuban phenom who ends up with a 13-digit salary.

I don't want to jump on the bandwagon too much, but a guy who has the ability to both pitch and hit has always been something that I've wanted to see. I've always hated the DH and my friends (literally all of them) mock me for it. It's why I was so pissed that the Twins passed on Hunter Greene.

I just don't get why for 100 years that we haven't had anyone do both.

Details are it's a grade 1 sprain, which should heal, though there is a foreign body in his elbow. I think by this point though everyone is aware of just how bad any elbow issue could become, especially for a guy who throws 102.

Shohei Ohtani has a first-degree sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, according to a physical obtained by Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
A first-degree sprain is the least severe and this physical was distributed to MLB teams as soon as Ohtani entered the posting system, so there's no real reason for immediate panic. But further damage to the UCL could of course eventually lead to Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. Ohtani underwent platelet-rich plasma treatment in October to address the discomfort that his damaged UCL was causing. He also has a "small free body" in the elbow, according to the report from Yahoo Sports, but the 23-year-old two-way Japanese star should be a full participant at the outset of Angels camp next spring

ZiPS projects Ohtani to hit .252/.313/.438 with a 100 wRC+. As for pitching, it projects a 3.47 ERA, 3.55 FIP and 26.5% strikeout rate in 140 innings. Collectively, he projects to 3.7 WAR.

Steamer projects a 3.48 ERA for him, but is more optimistic about his bat (.257/.335/.454, 113 wRC+).

Fangraphs' depth chart projections currently have the Angels pegged for 88-74 and the 2nd Wild Card.

What the hell is he going to benefit from in facing AAA hitters? MLB scouts consider NPB to be an "AAAA-league" and he already dominated it. Besides, it's Spring Training.

More and more I'm reading he can't deal with MLB curveballs-which is surprising, because I thought they could spin it pretty good over there.
