I have not said a lot about all of this, but let me say that I love what Shanny is doing.

Fo-sho. I actually place 100% of the blame on the media and 0% on the league/Shannahan. I think the media is making these suspensions into a 'game-changer,' which they really aren't.

Media/fans are just bored with not much to talk about, IMO...

Once the regular season starts, hopefully it won't be as big news as it is now and it'll die down a bit.

That's my take as well. It's still only the preseason after all.

I couldn't disagree more. If these suspensions are getting this much publicity when the games don't count what do you think is going to happen when they do?

I know some of the suspensions go into the reg season but the fan's mind set is still in preseason.

As BTO once said "You aint seen nothing yet" . Trust me on this.

But don't you get the sense that this is exactly the type of thing the league wants to stop, using Shanny to do it?

Wiz was stupid, but that's all he was doing. Making Clutterbuck pay for what the refs didn't.

His timing was horrible. That was the worst part to me. If the horn goes, then you just have to wait. Sometimes it's next period, sometimes it's next year. I know you already know that.

I was originally going to create a new thread about this, but decided it wasn't that big a topic.

Is anyone else getting tired of reading more about suspensions than the actual game? It seems like the talk about head-shots, trash-talk, and 'updated' rules are getting more publicity than the actual season ahead of us.

A couple perspectives on this...

(1) From my own perspective, I have paid less attention to any of the suspensions since the initial two in the pre-season. Now that I know they are being handled competently and with full transparency, I'm confident they are doing the right thing (or the closest thing to the "right thing" their interpretation allows) and I haven't been very engaged in this discussion. Last year, I probably would have paid more attention b/c I thought it was such a problem.

(2) I think you have to look at what hockey fans are paying attention to and what most fans are paying attention to. Hockey isn't on Sportscenter or even the local news much outside of a throwaway comment about the score (at least in America, I'm sure in Canada they have full coverage and people watching). Most fans remain unaware that hockey pre-season is even underway, much less thinking suspensions are getting too much attention. Hockey's problem is unlikely to ever be too much publicity.

I think players are getting the message. When the Isles played the Flames Trevor Gillies delivered a clean check on an opposing player while he had his head down in the Isles offensive zone. Gillies kept his arms to his side & hit him shoulder to chest. I look at it like this, if Gillies can do it everyone else should be able too as well.

I think Shanny just found the motto to put on his business cards

I love Shanny. Always have. I even had the name Brendan lined up if my third kid was a boy, not unentirely because of him. It just looks to me like he's trying to make himself the story.

My first born son is named Brendan....and it's entirely because of Shanny
