Sure but to be fair you are basing this mostly on what you have heard, correct? What we heard back in 2017 was Trubisky is a top 3 guy and maybe Mahomes should go round 1 and of course LJ should switch to WR.

Not putting you down (or any fan) but NFL FOs watch every pass these guys take, watch the film with the QBs and ask what they see, talk extensively with the QB to see what makes him tick and talk to his coaches and teammates....and even the elite of elite FOs miss all the time on coaches. No way fans can have a clue.

Only thing I'm certain of is IF my team loves a QB and he's there at 2 have to take him. What I hope they don't do is take one there just because they need one.,
Based on what I've heard and watched.

Of course FOs put in a lot more time evaluating these players. As you said and they still swing and miss often. Some players can never make that transition to the NFL. While sometimes a FO finds someone bagging groceries that sets them up for years.

Just saying from my comfy armchair GM recliner, that if I'm a team that feels close to getting to the playoffs/SB within the next couple years, I find the bridge QB and take another position of need that is more easily evaluated. There are a lot less swings and misses on non skill players.

Next year there looks to be a stronger QB class. I'm happy NE took Maye last year. Now, they're sitting in a good position. So many options for them come draft day. I hope the Raiders and Jets do fall in love with the same QB. That could possibly give NE a big pay day while still allowing NE to take a best player available. That choice should be based on what they do in FA. If they answer the line issues in FA, plus pick up that extra draft capital this year and next, I'd love to see them take Jeanty or Tyler Warren. Normally I would avoid taking a RB or TE but these two could be special.

I totally agree should not take a QB at 2 just because we need one but IF they love a guy based on theory own evaluations they should and will take him if available. Cannot wait for next year for 2 reasons...first, who knows if picking high enough again and second this same logic was used in the Mahomes draft (and even Watson who for a while looked like a really good QB) about the following draft. would bet at the time the top 2 guys thought to go in following draft were Darnold and Rosen (not even allen and LJ)

I like what little I've seen of Maye, too, FWIW. But wont be surprised at all if there are multiple QBs in this draft who turn out better than him.

Well if a team finds a QB in this draft better than Maye, they'll be quite lucky. From all accounts Maye looks to be the real deal. As a rookie with one of the worst Olines and receiver Corps he did exceptionally well.

Get the kid some more weapons. A true #1 WR. If the Browns are stupid enough to take Sanders at 2 then Abdul-Carter or Hunter is there at 3. Even if Carter is injured, the Pats are in rebuild anyway.

I hope the Browns take him though or trade back

True #1s are over rated and overpaid. NE built a dynasty without one minus Moss for a couple seasons. Because of the injury to Carter that makes me nervous. Everything hinges on what if anything the Pats do in FA.

I'm really hoping they address both lines in FA and trade down taking Jeanty or Tyler Warren. I think both could have great success in a McDaniels offense.

No more high WR picks for NE. They can't seem to get it right or develop WRs. TB12 deserves the credit for making, Welker, Amendolla, Eddelman...household names and lots if $.

I’m not saying he needs a superstar but they have a lack of weapons across the board. Once you find your franchise qb, or projected one, you build around him. Protect him and give him weapons. It’s always a great thing to get his guy(s) he can trust. Welker and Gronk, not bad. Target machines. Same with Edelman.

I hope it doesn’t hinge through FA. A rebuild is built through the draft. Find your young core and build around it in FA. Gotta find the core first. Long way to go

I'm a firm believer you build from the trenches. One draft pick isn't going to fix all the problems NE currently has. NEs biggest weaknesses were both lines. Build the lines in FA with proven vets. Then go after the shinny toys. If Maye has to keep running for his life, Randy Moss in his prime isn't going to help. It all depends on the FOs strategy going into FA and the draft.

As I said too many problems to fix with just the draft. Build the trenches, drop back get a shiny new toy plus an additional pick or two. NE is sitting pretty with a couple of QB needy clubs sitting behind them. Vegas signing Geno took one option out of play.
