I think if it wasn't there the tanking would be pretty horrendous. They've had to mess with the odds more after Philly made it an art form

Yeah true but they tank in the NFL too though. It's just crazy that a team that has the 7th, 8th or even 9th worst record has a chance (small chance) to get the best player.

Also losing 3 first round picks for the Joe Smith incident is way to harsh a penalty IMO. Especially when you know that team is gonna be picking top 5 every year.

Agreed but that was a pretty obvious move they made. Surprised Joe went for it honestly

It much harder, pretty impossible now, to win in the NBA if you don't get a star player...and no guarantee at 1 you will get one. Overall, the Twolves still have missed out on literally every star though...bad luck and bad drafting other than the KG pick. I don't think the lottery is fair especially for small market teams that depend on the draft like Minny, Cleveland, etc.

Too much money involved but they should probably eliminate 6 or 8 teams.

There's tanking even with the rule and especially in today's game where the players run the league the small market teams literally have no chance. That's the main reason I stopped watching. (I'm going to South Beach)

Do agree the pendulum has shifted quite a bit that way. Requires teams to nail the draft and make savvy trades to build a roster if they're small market. Detroit built a champion with trades mostly. They weren't much better with draft picks in the 90's either. Obviously Cleveland had the kind of advantage with signing LeBron back that is a one in a hundred year type thing

Thing is I can't get mad when people rip the Wolves, I myself have been doing it for 30 years. I love Kevin Garnett but he had some limitations I have no problem agreeing with and aside from KG the team has been a disaster of a franchise from go and it's never going to get better certainly not with the direction the association is currently going.
