Sens to pay respects at Ottawa service for Daron Richardson

I just thought this deserved a thread. In case you're wondering who this is. It's Luke Richardson's 14 year old daughter who passed away.

She committed suicide. Sad sad story....

It really puts things in to perspective.

I have a daughter that's almost the same age as Daron, so it really hits home. Very sad and my thoughts and prayers go out to the Richardson family.

very sad indeed. all my thoughts to the family and friends and all my hate to those that defaced the memorial on the facebook for her. those people need to have some ice time with Neil or Carkner......... and have Ruutu finish them off

Some of the Sens players were choked up about it too. Phillips and Fisher in particular almost started crying when they talked to the media yesterday.

People have to remember that these guys may be professionals but they're also human beings too.

Not that it matters, but does anyone know the accident that proceeded the suicide attempt? Just wondering if she was hurt previously.

I hope there is a special hell for people who deface things like the memorial page, or those that celebrate soldiers funerals.

I don't think there was any indication of this happening at all. It just happened out of the blue. By all accounts, she was a happy girl with lots of friends. I think that's why Luke and his wife went public about the whole suicide thing. They want people to know about it and create more awareness about it because apparently it's becoming a more common thing these days.

And shame on those people is right...
