I like this move other than the 1st and a prospect. I think Petry could have been had for less but either way he is a solid addition

the 1st rounder is this year if we make the playoffs, its next year if we miss so that is good too.

This is HUGE! Lombardi continues his genius. Not only do Kings get top 4 dman giving up no current assets, ducks and Hawks don't get him. Also, With Regher UFA and Voynov status unknown Kings have multiple options and even though Sekera is UFA, Cups and great organizations get contagious.

Solid move. Hopefully he helps fix this atrocious power play.

Hate to give up a first if he is just a rental but I read somewhere the Futa worked with in in JRs so maybe they think they can keep him :?

I too hope he turns out to be more than a rental and that the Kings make a deep run (devaluing the pick).

My gut is telling me he is not a rental. I think this marks Regehr's end here in LA and those dollars will be used to resign Sekera.

Even if he is, the Kings make a deep run again like the last 3 years and this is a 27-30th pick. No big.

Guys, forget this "rental" panic. When you have the window you GO FOR IT! Plus Lombardi is a freaking genius. He knows exactly what he's doing. (Don't hit me with "he wasnt a genius on Richards" he really had no other choice. To take a leadership cog off a two of three Cup team would have been very risky and not shown the loyalty Kings are now known for.) Dean ROCKS!

A little expensive in the way of assets but if it works out it'll be worth it. The Kings gave up 2 picks to move up in last year's draft to pick McKeown plus the 1st rounder.

I think it is a little steep of a price as well, but sometimes you have to buy 5.00 gas because you need it now.
He does have a history with Regehr and Futa
Kings acquire defenseman Sekera from Carolina- Kings Blog: Orange County Register

There’s also a comfort level. Sekera and Regehr were teammates in Buffalo for parts of two seasons, and when Sekera played junior hockey, for Owen Sound of the OHL, his general manager was Michael Futa, currently the Kings’ vice president of hockey operations.

I am not worried if it is a rental or not, the Kings have put themselves in a position to make another run and a need was addressed.

with this we wont see any more movement im sure unless its pick/prospect swapping.

We basically will also get two pick ups when the playoffs roll around when Pearson is back from injury and you know they will bring Richards back up

Even if Pearson returns, I think he would be extremely rusty. It's a broken leg after all, he's not even skating right now.

As for the trade, the price seems hefty. I feel like at some point DL needs to keep the prospect pool somewhat full. Continually trading 1st round picks & decent prospects can be a dangerous game down the road. Hopefully the Kings can put together another deep run.

Honestly it seems like a lot but our pick is likely going to be a what? 20th to 30th pick? I know this draft is deep but i dont think its that deep.

Our core is still young, esp the D. And we do have some good young forwards still in the system.
