You can make an argument about this spike being related to Trump's rhetoric but you can make as strong an argument that, like after 9/11, terror attacks linked to Muslim extremism is the primary driver of the uptick in hate crimes against Muslims. Charlie Hebdo, Paris, Nice, Berlin, San Bernardino, Orlando (that was one big ass hate crime, BTW) have all occurred in the last 2 years where we've seen that increase.

As for those hate crimes, the graffiti is ugly but it's not just happening in America (it's happened quite frequently here, too). A lot of those post-Trump "hate crimes" (most, actually) wound up being hoaxes which, let's face it, doesn't help anybody.
