Does he mean the fake news that has caught him in lie after lie?

The most remarkable thing about his lies is that, not infrequently, the there are videos or other documentation of the things he's lying about, readily available in the public forum. Either he's pathological or he's trying to gaslight the entire country (or both).

I grew up in Medicine Hat which is nicknamed "The Gas City" and who Rudyard Kipling said has "All hell for a basement"

OK, no one cares about that, either :D

Vice President Pence last week:
"“I say to all of you gathered here today to the people of Puerto Rico: We are with you, we stand with you, and we will be with you every single day until Puerto Rico is restored bigger and better than ever before."

And then today...
These are Americans...

Americans who can't cast a vote for President - Not that it should matter, but it likely does with the current President.

"Texas voted for me, so let's help them out"
"Florida voted for me, so let's help them out"
"Puerto Rico, they didn't/can't vote for me, so let's make a little PR stunt, and get the hell out."

What is wrong with him? It's most despicable that he would think this way, but that he would publicize it is just so pointless. There is no upside at all. If he doesn't care about Puerto Rico (which he clearly doesn't), he could easily just keep it to himself and not draw this ire.

Though, I guess we should all be grateful he's not clever enough to disguise his cruelty.

Except that there is. His demonizing of anyone with skin darker (at least, less orange) than him plays well with his base. The fact that they're Americans doesn't matter to a lot of the people who voted for him and he knows that he can exploit it.

His "base" is small, though. He's campaigning still, he wants reelection. He's actively alienating like 70% of the population by doing this. There's probably a substantial chunk beside that starting to waffle on him, too.

I think it's more likely he just thinks he's invincible. Or he lacks the impulse control to stop himself from tweeting every stupid thought that comes into his head.

He may very well think that, but he would be wrong. Millions voted for him and find his subsequent behavior bizarre, embarassing and offputting.

Is it too early to ask the R's to nominate a legit candidate next time?

He's been doing it all along. And it got him elected. Past returns are (hopefully) no indication of future performance, but here we are.

I think a lot of folks thought he was just being inflammatory to get attention, and voted for him for simply not being a lifelong politician. Now that they see he wasn't just being inflammatory for attention, but is in fact this abrasive and incompetent, his numbers are waning. That's likely to continue, and statements like this one accelerate that process.

On the subject, the (fake news) Washington Post has an OUTSTANDING article/graphic on the Hurricane Maria crisis in Puerto Rico. The satellite images are particularly troubling and demonstrate how much that island is struggling right now with the basic necessities for civilization.

Check it out HERE.

I would hope that's true. But I didn't think it would work the first time. And I thought he shot his campaign in the foot on a dozen different times. Ultimately I think a lot of us - myself included - were wrong about how things would play out.

And while I'd hope it doesn't happen again, I wouldn't be confident enough to bet on it. I'm with H.L. Mencken on this one.
