Yes, and I'm sure they will take advantage of it. They are normally fairly conservative in their play calling in that they don't do trick plays or really risky plays, but this is the SB. They need to pull out all the stops and do something unexpected and Harvin gives them the perfect weapon to do so even if it is just using him in some exotic decoy play meant to spring Baldwin or Tate.

Back to original topic. Extra study time for manning wont mean much. Seattle doesnt hide what they do, they dont change what they do. Single high man to man rush 4........ No questions there , sea just beats people....so manning can omaha all he want seattle will do what they do.

Seattle doesn't sit in one look all day. They go to several different ones, but what they don't do is disguise their looks or do exotic shifting. They show you which coverage they are in and then dare you to beat it. Mince no words here, Manning will get some big plays against it. The only question is how many and can Seattle keep up and find a way to take the lead late. The weather could have a major impact on that. The colder it is and the more chance of snow during the game the more that favors our defense.

I was actually thinking about this today and have to believe this is an advantage for the Seahawks because it mitigates a significant piece of the Broncos offense. This is a very basic idea in military tactics. If the enemy outnumbers you, use the terrain in such a way that it canalizes him and mitigates his superior numbers. As it relates to football, if the opposing QB is awesome at seeing through what a defense is doing, mitigate this strength by being extremely good at and open about what you are about to do. It will mitigate one of his advantages.

With that said, even if Manning doesn't "crack the code" like he has done with so many other defenses, it may not matter. The physical matchup between the Seahawks secondary and the Broncos WRs/TEs will come down to execution. Both will probably have their moments against the other side. The thing about this group for the Broncos is that stopping them is like playing "whack-a-mole." Demaryius Thomas going up against Richard Sherman is probably a wash. But they don't need Demaryius Thomas to have a big day to win this game. They don't need Decker to have a big day either. Or Julius Thomas, or Wes Welker or even Moreno. One of them may brake out, or they may all have pedestrian numbers, but collectively do a lot of damage. That is part of what makes this offense so awesome is they have so many different ways to get it done.

It does present the Seahawks defense with a challenge far greater than any they've faced this season. But then again, the Seahawks defense is a challenge far greater than any the Broncos have faced too.

It wont just be sherman v dem thomas.....it will be sherman vs the right side of mannings offense...lif he wants he can line up thomas on the left and he wont see sherm all day....seattle has really good options at cb they dont need to shadow one wr. Which should help seattle vs a broncos offense with 2 or 3 number 1 wrs

Actually I'm curious to see if they do shadow thomas. They did shadow Boldin in week 2 and that worked out well. I wouldn't expect to see it a lot, but moving him around could be one of those things they do differently to show Manning something he doesn't expect. I don't expect to see it, but it is always possible.

About the only thing radically different about Seattle in this game, compared to the rest of regular and post season is Broncos will have to game plan for Harvin being out there. That and the Broncos WRs are going feel pain in their muscles and joints when they watch the game tape of the Seattle D this year.

Because the Broncos WR, while good at football, are made even better by Peyton Manning. It's not like you have 4 HoF receivers regardless of who the QB is.

Perhaps not, but they are all above average and the fact is they are playing with Manning in this game, making this the biggest challenge the Seahawks defense has faced all year. By a long shot. The Broncos WRs already match up well with that big secondary, but add to it Manning is the one throwing the ball and I would give the offense a slight advantage.

Saint's were right behind the Bronco's in passing offense.

The Bronco's have not faced a top shelf D let alone one of the best in history.

The Bronco's running D ranked at 7th is very misleading due to many of the mediocre teams they played that had to pass to keep up,Lynch will have a field day with the Denver D.

Again Denver's D is ranked 19th in passing the Hawks have played far better plus the Cowboy's put 40 points on the Bronco's.

I feel far more confident for the Hawks going into this game than the NFC Championship tbh and there is just not that odd feeling for me compared to the 05 SB going in.

I wish I had your confidence. I don't.

I don't think we're going to lose, but it's going to be a tough win and the offense WILL have to put some points up. We've seen them do it (Saints) but we've also seen them lay some eggs recently. Not having to play a top 5 defense will help (we've been doing that a lot).

Side note, it looks like 17% of ticket sales on Stubhub are from Seattle versus 10% from Denver. Most are from NY/NJ...I'm not sure who they'll be rooting for.

I hope Seattle fans are able to act like we do at the Clink (on our feet, yelling, etc). No 12th man flags though (against SB rules).

what im worried about with denver is wes welker i would like to match up against them if they want to throw long balls downfield against our secondary but if they start passing to wes for those 8-10 yard plays that turn into an extra 15-20 yards after catch which is what he is infamous for than we have a problem

The Broncos this year probably only go deep 3-4 times a game on average so I wouldn't expect them to do it very often. 0-10 yards is where you should be looking for a majority of the passes. Peyton is perfectly fine just taking all the underneath throws picking up 4-5 yards at a time then hoping just maybe a team will miss a tackle or two and see a 5 yard play turn into 30 yards.

cdumler is correct. it is not just welker running the short routes. DT, decker, welker, and JT all run the short rub routes. It is the staple of their offense.

and you both are correct that because the seahawks corners play very aggressively at the l.o.s., there is a real possibility that those little 4-5 yard routes could turn into 20 yarders if the corner loses his man. i'm sure the seahawks are game planning for these routes though so it will be interesting to see where they position their LB's and safeties to contain these routes.
