Wow, do we really have 35 mil in cap space for this upcoming off season?

If that's the case, let's go hard after Leveon Bell (if negotiations don't work out in Pitt) or Chandler Jones for some pass rush

Maybe snatch up Martellus Bennett to pair with Jimmy Graham. Martellus is a good blocker and receiver and would be an immediate upgrade over the inconsistent hands of Luke Willson.

Yes, but that's only 20th in cap space in the NFL. There are teams with over $100 million available. Hell, San Fran has over $80 million. The number looks good - but really that's bottom half. There could be a lot of money thrown around the league this FA.

If we don't sign one single FA on our team we would... We have 29 RFA or UFA on our team... We're going to have to replace/resign 29 heads somehow... All that 35 million isn't incremental above and beyond the players we currently have on our team..

Plus money for the draft, fund to replace injuried players, etc.

Ah damn it

I saw Harold's post and I started doing some free agent Christmas shopping thinking we had money to spend this off season.

Looks like the draft will once again be our lone source to replenish talent

Yeah, I'll honestly be surprised if J. Graham isn't released... We need to free up cap space somewhere and why not do it at a position where a player is vastly overpaid for what they're being asked to do...
Released? Would think he'd be able to fetch a 3rd or something.

Get a 3rd, spend his money elsewhere, trade a late round pick for RFA Josh Gordon (if reinstated) and sign him to a cheap contract with no guaranteed money.

Hate trading him, but 10M is a lot to spend for the numbers he's putting up with the Seahawks. The offense seemed to do fine without him after he was injured last season.

I agree. Im a huge fan and don't want him traded, but considering the lack of usage, his cap hit may better be served elsewhere. I'm thinking we trade our #1 and Jimmy to move up in the 1st to land one of the top tackles. Then take the cap savings and go get a vet corner or Calais Campbell. This won't happen, but I think we would be better off.

I find it hard to believe that we'd be able to get a 3rd with his contract...

If the team taking him signs a new contract, which would make sense, his cap hit could be lessened.

How about if we extend him to lessen his cap hit? Maybe extend him and sign Martellus as was mentioned above; that would be a huge upgrade.

Ya signing an extension is an option, but wont get near the 10m in cap relief cutting or trading him will give us.

10 million don't buy you much now a days though. Unless to get something really good in return, rather just extend him.

Agreed. Once the o-line gets better, JG will become a bigger factor in the passing game. He had good numbers this year while doing a lot of blocking on the line.

Jimmy Graham is not going to go backwards in pay... Just keep that in mind... He's not going to do us a favor and take a pay cut...

He wouldnt need a paycut to lower his cap hit, for one year.

10m could go a long way in shoring up our OL

There are several good Gs available, like kevin zeitler who is a beast. We could upgrade rt easily, gilliam is a backup AT BEST and we basically have nobody else.

I know what youll say, G isnt our problem area. A guy like zeitler could give us our dominant run game back.

I don't have any problems bring Zeitler in, but there needs to be a clear plan in place with the line to do so. Most likely, that would mean Ifedi kicking out to RT - as Zeitler isn't going to be cheap. Zeitler will cost at least Iupati money ($8 million per) but most likely will be closer to Osemele money ($11.6 million per). If the Hawks go this route - you will just have to give up the idea that Seattle will bring in any further help for the OT through FA.

On the flip side - if Seattle plays it smart - they could feasibly get Matt Kalil and Luke Joekel to bookend the line (if they wanted) for less money overall than Zeitler. Now, both players are coming off seasons where they missed most of their teams' games and Joekel was moved from LT to LG before the season started. But, If Fant and Gilliam really aren't going to improve (and Gilliam isn't even under contract) then taking a flier on 2 veteran tackles in their mid 20s that could cost less than $10 million a year combined wouldn't be a bad way to rebuild.

If not a 3rd, I'm fairly certain a team like the Browns with cap room will be willing to give up at least a late round pick for him.

Graham is a special talent though, I'd bet he'd get a 3rd.

A bit tough for me to see the rationale behind trading Graham. I know he has a big salary, but he's also one of the biggest 1 on 1 mismatches in the game. Some say we don't use him enough, but this season he caught 65 passes for over 900 yards. That's an insane year for a TE on this team, especially when you consider he was coming back from injury that many said would keep him from ever being what he was.
