I would like to know how the interview process went when TO met with both Frost and Pelini 6 years ago

Well if I was the AD at Nebraska and was looking for a head coach (pipe dream) but you still got to ask him Tony Dungy. If he not interested I try and get him to help along with Dr. Tom in the search.

I don't think it mattered....

The fans wanted Pelini and TO was smart....he knew what was going to bring money and interest into the program real quick.

I'm the biggest Frost fan in the world. But my dream solution would be:

1. Poach MikeMac from CU
2. Have MikeMac convince Scott Frost to take Nebraska OC job. Tell him he has free reign recruiting, scheme, everything on offense is his.

I don't want a big name guy..........that's just me I guess.

I got used to having a home grown coach in TO, and that's what I like......a guy who understands the tradition here and how we do things.

Bo doesn't understand it, or doesn't care about it. He thinks this is the NFL. I am tired of him making references, in fact, to the NFL when talking about his Defensive schemes. Even if you had Alabama's Defensive recruits, it would be hard to make Bo's way work as these are young College dudes who have pussy and beer on their minds.

yet to see R_A suggest another name after being asked to..

Maybe I should make a ridiculously long post addressing his failure to construct a counter argument

Just spending 10 minutes I came up with this guy.

Mark Hudspeth (Louisiana-Lafayette HC)

44 years old, roots in prime recruiting country, success as a head coach with far less resources than he'll have here.

Mark Hudspeth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not saying this is the guy, but a coaching search would turn up many guys like this, potentially better.

Scott Frost can. Stop comparing him to Pelini. Frost is a man, not a child and will strive to be the best, not square peg a failed system for 10 years
-------
Frost maybe a "man",but he is NOT a proven commodity. this is his first year as OC and he still has a ton of Kelly's recruits that were recruited for that particular system. If this was 3-4 years down the road and Frost was still looking great as the OC @ Oregon, I'd be inclined to agree with you. As it is, we need an experienced decision maker NOW.

I just don't know if I can see the Huskers the same way bringing in some guy that I don't know.....

Any guy from the outside is just going to seem like Callahan all over to me.....even if the results are different. How do you get an outsider to truly understand how we do things here and embrace those things?

Also, Nebraska is a stepping stone for coaches like that.

Scott Frost would likely stay here as long as he possibly could. I don't want some guy who comes in and sees instant success only to bolt off to the NFL.

-------
You have to realize the reason we didn't get a good college football coach at the time Callahan was hired was due to Pederson's personality...period. We don't have that to deal with now. And if you remember correctly good ol' Stevie boy was hired here because HE had Nebraska connections. That qualifier in and of itself guarantees nothing. The only "outside" hire we've had in 50 years was Devaney and he didn't turn out too bad.

Don't see where in our recent past Nebraska has been used as a stepping stone--least ways not in football. Realistically, no matter who we hire, unless they are on the down side of their career (agewise), in this day and age few coaches stay put. If we can get ten good years out of a proven coach, I'll be OK with that
