Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is a candidate to be the next head coach at Vanderbilt. Also in the running to be Vandy's next head coach is Pep Hamilton, offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts.

Please take him!

If Shittenheimer goes, who do we replace him with? I hope it is someone with half a brain this time around.

I like Schotty, if he goes I at least hope we promote from within or get some one who runs the same system.

We need someone that actually is an innovator and has a brain to have an actual game strategy that attacks down field instead of this maddening ding and dunk shit that we get stuck with every year.

I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I don't think this is necessarily a good thing. If there's one thing better for the Rams than ousting a scapegoat... it's continuity. Schottenheimer may have lacked creativity early on, but I think he showed (perhaps a little late in the game) that he can make changes to produce some offense.

Offensively, the Rams were serviceable down the stretch. Well... as serviceable as you can be with a backup QB and the late season injuries. But, none-the-less, it was pretty evident that the players were buying in (I know Zac Stacy was:high5:). I think starting from scratch could be detrimental to the team. And not just from the QB perspective, but for second year guys like Austin, Bailey and Cook (second year in the system, that is).

Knowing what we do about Schotty, the way the team finished up 2013, and the personnel we'll get back (and possibly add) next season, I think it would behoove us to keep as much of this staff intact, as possible.

Well Caynine, we may not have a choice in the matter especially if he accepts an offer. You can't tell somebody: "You have to stay here because the fans want continuity". I get the point of your post but these are supposed professionals here and I am sure they get that this business is filled with a goodly amount of turnover.

I actually have mixed feelings about this. If Schotty leaves for Vandy, will this effect Sam Bradford. It will the 4th OC during his tenure with the Rams. I will say this, if he does land the job, lets bring in a guy who will make this offense exciting to watch. We are slowly putting the pieces in place at WR and WHEN we draft Sammy Watkins, lets utilize the speed the way it should be.

It would be too good to be true if they hired him. Unfortunately, if they look at any of the tape on the Rams this year or last, the only position they'll be hiring him for is to teach the insomniacs class. I know his offense bored me to sleep often enough over his tenure.

If it is a step up I wish him well. I am all for someone more open minded. Willing to push the envelope just a tad. As for Sam he is or should be a professional and have the ability to adapt. Hopefully on another team.

Another new OC will just be another excuse for bad play on the field...

I can remember when he started here, the ESPN board was flooded by JET fans saying, "Good luck with him, he's your Problem Now!!" They couldn't stand him!

Let's hope Schotty gets hired. We need an OC who will use the talent available and open up this offense.

True, Retro. "Ousting" was probably the wrong choice of words, but I was thinking more along the lines of the fan reaction than anything else. I guess the main point of my post is that it's likely not as good of a development as some might think.

I, for one, have my fingers crossed that he stays.

Didn't they try to open it up at the beginning of the season? With 4 and 5 WR sets. It didn't work so they went back to the running game

They tried Cougar but it failed because there was no direction or strategy in the game plan and Shittenehimer had a lot of inexperience at key areas of the offense that increased the likelihood of failure. That being, the O-line blocking on pass plays, the WRs creating separation for the QB to deliver the ball deep, and the combination of practicing deep routes which apparently was not done. So they had little choice but to try and develop a running game because a running game is easier to attain success than a deep passing attack with inexperience and failed timing everywhere.
