This is why I am in favor of international players being forced into the amateur draft.

They are already professionals (at least the players from Far East), different category (free agents). They'll stay overseas if they can't control their destination like any other FA.

Was there this same uproar when the Angels got Ohtani? Or when the Mariners got Ichiro?

When American kids are the only ones that can't control their own paths, it is a major problem. Either make everyone a free agent signing or everyone goes into the draft.

I'm not so sure he's even a #5 SP.
Thing is, is we don’t really know cause he’s never been given a legit shot. He was finally healthy once Miller and Woo established the 4th and 5th spot. His injury history got him leapfrogged

But IMO they either need to trade while he still has value or move him into a high leverage arm. I promise there will be a story this spring, just like every other spring when Hancock is touching 99 consistently which he does in short spurts. It’s why during his Futures game appearance he dominated and looked like Skenes out there.

I'm all about trying him as the setup 8th inning guy or closer. He needs a spot and not rotated around the pen.

Don't be surprised if those foreign players that can get paid in their home countries never come to America if they don't like who drafts them, much like players did with the NBA over the years.

It's only an issue today because it's the Dodgers. If he had chosen the Brewers, would you have a problem with the system? I'm sure you wouldn't if he chose the Mariners.

I'd be shocked if he chose either the 2 ball clubs. Dodgers have a winning pedigree with a stable FO which is something Seattle doesn't have. Kind of an easy choice on his part.

Yes. The system is broken. It doesn't matter the team. If they choose not to come, the game will be just fine. As fine as it is now, which isn't fine, but it will fix one issue at least.

What players is the NBA missing out on? Lower level role players.

But why should he and Latin players have the option to choose while American kids have to go where drafted? It makes zero sense.

Most Asian and Latino players have professional baseball years under their belt whether it's 1, 2 or 10yrs while American kids have none since they're being drafted out of high school and college but these HS and college kids that get drafted early make very good money and spend most of that time in the minors while asian and latino players have no choice as FAs to sign a small contract to play pro baseball.

First off, the Latin players are 16 and 17. Second, the Latin players all go to the minors just like the American kids. Third, did you see their contracts? Top Latin kids get 7 figures. No poverty there. Only the Top 50 or so American kids get money that is life changing. The rest get minimum wage numbers. Baseball players aren't making those large NIL deals that football and basketball kids get. Not even close.

The thing is about a cap is that it won't necessarily change the idea of smaller to mid teams getting quality players. If a free agent super star is thinking well if the max is 300 million then if I can help it I would still try to go to the Yankees or Dodgers. The same way if an NBA super star was guaranteed the max he would go to a larger market team. Nobody is signing with the Utah Jazz or San Antonio Spurs.

NBA doesn't have a cap. They have a tax and disguise it as a cap. Too many ways to work around it.

If MLB had a hard cap and a star wanted top dollar, most likely they would have to go to a middle team to get it because the top teams would be capped out. The cap wouldn't stop teams from loading up entirely, but it would make it real hard for them.

Their professional is kind of apples and oranges. The NPB is really equivalent to the college World Series. The international free agent market is broken and while the brokenness of it are fine until you are start talking about a cap. A cap is to make things more competitive, but international FA signings is like giving the best teams the top few draft picks.

If there is a cap it won’t be anywhere near where the Dodgers payroll. More owners prefer their payroll lower and will outvote the big market.

Unfortunately the only way to fix the problem is work stoppage.

Without question there is going to be which I think is sad cause you can already see the fans clamoring for a cap. To me it just sucks that billionaires not wanting to spend money has the fans wanting to cap how much money players can make. Yes players make way too much money, but it’s not like owners are going to make being a fan more affordable.

The only way ticket prices come down is if attendance severely drops for several years do to poor play on the field which is becoming more and more likely.

See even then I don’t think they would. Usually when attendance drops is when relocation rumors start. If M’s ownership would bring their prices down to 2016 level then I’d be ok with them having a 2016 budget like they do now.
