The Baltimore Sun reports the Raiders are expected to sign free agent T/G Rodger Saffold "for roughly $8 million per year."

Wonder how/if this affects that 2nd pick.

another team that overpaid for an injury prone player. Hope nothing but the best for him but obviously all he wants is a huge payday because he's going to oakland for fucks sake....

Hope he likes Oakland........haha.

Oh and I'm not sure about this "source"

More news coming out:

Free agent G/T Rodger Saffold informed the Rams on Sunday that he won't be re-signing.

Saffold is expected to sign with either Tampa Bay or Oakland. The Raiders are the favorites with reports indicating they're offering Saffold a whopping $8 million per year. Before free agency, we would've said Saffold "did well" if he landed a contract worth $6 million annually. The Rams have an awful lot of work to do on the offensive line. They badly wanted Saffold back to start at guard.

Jake Long, ????, Scott Wells, ????, Barksdale. I wouldn't say an awful lot.

We've known this day was coming since the Jake Long signing. Saffold was able to play LT when the Rams did the dink and dunk offense on Bradford's rookie year and everyone got excited. Since then, he has an awful 2nd year (along with everyone else on the offense that year), an injury riddled 3rd year and a decent 4th year spending much of it at G. Not worth $8 million a year. If he was a player without an injury history, I think the Rams might have tried

Oakland is overpaying for a player that has a history of getting injured. All the power to Saffold but what Oakland is spending for the services Saffold is rendering is not an equity-based transaction. That is why Oakland will be picking in the top five for the foreseeable future.

To me this all but seals that Fisher will draft an OT in the first round, whether it be Robinson/Matthews with the (right now) #2 pick or Lewan at #13.

Also tells me that the Rams will go all in on Jairus Bryd. He is a St Louis boy after all. Bring him home guys!! Bryd says he wants 8-9 million per year. I say 4 years/36 million will do it. Then we bring back Finnegan at a reduced rate and maybe look at cheaper O line depth like Jon Asamoah or Michael Oher or both...

:agree::nod::10:Yes on Bryd and resign Finnigan is going to happen because it is Fisher. All the more I want Watkins either at #2 and if the Raiders are getting Saffold:-)scratch:injury waiting to happen), they might just jump up for a QB at the Rams pick at #2. Watkins might still be there at #5 but even if he is not, the OTs will be there and get a #1 from the Raiders next year. There are two guards in the 2nd we can get but Shelly Smith might have a different look today:whistle:

Agreed. and you can add more rookies to that list (Yankey, Richardson, etc)

Jon Asamoah is out there as well (free agency)

He's only spent 47 out of the 111 games actually on the field over the last 4 years, and his only pretty good year was last year as a guard. I don't know if I would call him a bust or not, but he is absolutely not worth 8 million. Good move by Fisher and Co. not overpaying this guy. Wish him the best of luck on the dysfunctional Raiders.

Bye Bye Saffold, moody, hurt, wants the big LT bucks, takes the money from the Raiders. We are better off not counting on him.

Can't blame him for taking the money, but we didn't need to over pay for someone who is hurt 40% of the time. Hope he doesn't get injured running out of the tunnel this year for the Raiders. I won't miss him..hell the only time i'll think of him is when I'm shopping diaper shopping for my infant nephew. Soft Ass !

Can we trade with Oakland and get their 1st next year?

It's bound to be a high one with injury prone Saffold manning the LT spot.

:agree:Very possible they will want to move up for a QB. It would take their #1 next year plus change this year:nod:
