Just heard about this, and don't know if it's already been posted?

Apparently the Sabres were offering Roy and Kassian for Spezza, but the trade was rejected.

Cool to hear because it indicates that Pegula is going to put his money where his mouth is in the future.

Edit: And I totally didn't look up the spelling of your owner's name beforehand, so feel free to make fun of me if I got that wrong.

Murray really is an idiot. Roy for Spezza alone is fair to me. Add Kassian & it's a no brainer.

Granted I see Spezza as an enigma. He has one of the best slappers in the game he just never shoots the damn puck. He must drive Senators fans nuts.

Considering that Roy had a season ending injury in December, it would of been interesting to see what the Sabres could of done with Spezza in the lineup.

Obviously the trade would of only benefited the Sabres for the rest of that season.

This would make sense since Regier and Pegula were saying back in March that they almost landed a "bigger fish" but it didn't work out.

With Roy you know what you're getting.

Kassian is like another former hometown spitfire-Steve Downie.
You have to get him to control his anger.Downie has matured a bit and has turned into a useful contributor.hopefully Kassian can follow suit.

I would think Ottawa wants more than that, but it seems fair IMO

I would assume that Ottawa didn't want to trade one of their top players to a division rival for a player that had a season ending injury, and a kid that isn't ready yet to play in the NHL with anger issues?

Actually a nice trade for both teams. I think it's painfully obvious Spezza isn't going to live up to his price tag in Ottawa. I wouldn't say he's done at this point, I just think he needs a change of scenery. Murray could have cleared a lot of cap space, kept a decent center in the mix, and added a good prospect. The Sabres get a guy who could very easily be a game breaker. I bet the trade fell through because Regier couldn't help but tease Murray.

"What do you mean Spezza, a second rounder, a satchel of asparagus, and some slick suspenders? Hey, wait a minute..."

Question (and not trying to derail the thread as I think it's related)...has there been any rumblings about Brad Richards to Buffalo? They are a playoff team with him, and it's a good hockey city without being unforgiving. If they add a few more pieces now/in the next few years, they could become a quick contender.

Another rumor out there is that Richards has a meeting scheduled with Regier and Pegula.

Wouldn't that be considered tampering? (Depending on the "source" of the rumor)

All I know is that people are trying to report anything and everything they hear or think they heard.

I would imagine that getting Richards is something the Sabres are very interested in doing.

If Richards has meetings scheduled already the Stars could go to the league. Whether they would or not is another story.
