Sadly I think those days are over.

Maybe not for a very very small number of teams. One would be yours, even so...... Dont think we see the long term HC in CFB in todays day and age and moving forward.
10 years at one place is really the best number then things get complacent examples:

Philip Fulmer
Spurrier at Florida
Tuberville at Auburn
Mack Brown

It's a pressure cooker and new blood news to come in about every decade.

i don't think spurrier left because he had gotten complacent and was losing out on players. he was still doing pretty well in the SEC, but just took a shot at the NFL.

but the others are pretty good examples. felt like tuberville got lazy that last year or two and it really hurt auburn. it allowed alabama to really take control of recruiting... and in one of the most loaded in-state years in alabama history. so alabama's program was able to get built faster than it probably should have.

Spurrier was quoted when he left "10 years at one place is long enough". He knew the score and kept his name hot one of the smartest guys in the game.

So, since this is getting a ton if attention on here I wanted to reach out to some of my sources and get info before I weighed in. One guy says it is a done deal but Bama is getting a last chance to counter and all of the sudden Dan Snyder has gotten involved. I believe the former not the latter. I don't think Snyder goes this route and I don't think Sabans dictator style works with professionals making more than him.

Another new but really really shocking source has said it is a done deal and an 8 figure number.

I have another friend who is a pretty significant donor at Texas that I asked as all but haven't hear back.

Just figured I would pass this along.

Spurrier left a pretty brutal roster when he moved on. The issue is you just get stale after a certain period of yrs. You go from the new hot thing, established, and than the old guy. You get the recruits in your area that love you, but you start to lose out a lot more on the 4-5 star guys with 0 ties that are jump balls.

The plane thing was debunked already if that is what you are talking about. He was in Kentucky recruiting 2 hours after that plane landed.
