My buddy just texted me about two minutes before that went up.

If it's in the 4-5m range, I might lose my shit because WHY DID THIS TAKE SO FUCKING LONG?

Otherwise, thank God. Allah. Krishna, Ganesh, Jehovah. Bobby Orr. Whoever did this. Thank you.

3m, 3m, and then 6m?

Well, hopefully Joey understands that the organization believes he will make them pay at the end of this deal.

God dammit why did this take so long?

I think twatwaffle said the $6M is set so if they go into another dispute the QO has to be minimum $6M

You sure about that? I just posted the facebooks update - no one mentioned it. I assumed they had a bye.

Well, twatwaffle would say that, But he's grasping at anything to get his name in this. Truth is MacKenzie broke it. A guy in an office in Toronto got word before a guy sitting in the Tim Horton's next to the practice facility did.

My Buddy works at the rink the Jackets practice in and he heard before Twatwaffle put it on Twitter...

I like that the last year is 6m. Tells Johansen that if he keeps up the pace, his LT deal will be 8+. Now he just has to go do it.

I honestly dont care who breaks this stuff. but I saw twatwaffles tweet retweeted by a local radio guy here on that. so I just cited the source I pulled it from.

I love how sports writing has become all about I HAD IT FIRST IIIIIIIIIM THE BEST! I never gave a flying fuck who had what ten seconds before someone else, I care much more about the content of writers/broadcasters' discussions and articles. Guess I'm amongst the dwindling breed. Rick Reilly was the worst of this.

As for RyJo, I hope for CBJ's sake (or maybe not, if the Leafs fuck everything up and go out and be a good team) the fact he missed training camp works out more like PK Subban than it does Cody Franson.

Apparently, I am not the only one who dislikes twatwaffle around here. His tendency to inject half truths into things is being noticed. He's the one who started this whole negotiation in the wrong direction by reporting the "slap in the face" shit.

So when he says the motivation for the 6m final year is for Johansen's side to guarantee a qualifying offer of 6m at the end, I feel like that's crap. If they agreed on 3/12m the Jackets could have easily said 4, 4, 4. I feel like the 6 at the end is an olive branch. "Make us pay".

And they kept Overhardt from getting his record bridge deal.

If twatwaffle says the sky is blue, I am seeking a second opinion.

its like this with so many "media" reporters now. however the $4M per is a good deal. one thing now is that hockey is taking a bad hit with me with so much attention on contracts/AAV/cap circumvention blah blah blah..... we spend more time on discussing contracts now

I don't mind as much with them thumping their chest saying they were first, as long as what they say is appropriate. Portzline has always had a tendency to inject things to spice up what he writes. And i hate that. It could be true, but it doesn't *have* to go there.

He could have written "Ryan Johansen wasn't pleased with the Blue Jackets opening offer, but feels optimistic a deal will get done."

Instead he wrote "Ryan Johansen said the offer was a 'slap in the face' and that the sides are 'hectares' apart"

He wants to be a big city writer. Maybe we can send him to Ottawa.

Johansen has been practicing daily and has apparently worked hard all offseason. He's going to have a lot of pressure on him with the fans and possibly the locker room (slaps in the face). But I have faith that he's gonna rise above it. And the chemistry of the team is going to be all jacked anyway as Richards moves guys around with injuries. I expect a slow start, but it will come together by November.

Poor Wennberg. This has to be a roller coaster of emotion for him.

I get my chance! *johansen signs*
I don't get my chance... *dubinsky possibly hurt*
I GET MY CHANCE! *Dubinski is made of titanium, you know*
So, I don't get my chance?

I don't think any of that matters. If people in Montreal didn't give a hoot when PK Subban missed actual games in a shortened season, there's certainly no basis on which to vilify Johansen.

  1. Bobrovsky, Sergei - $6.25M
  2. Horton, Nathan - $6M
  3. Hartnell, Scott - $5M
  4. Wisniewski, James - $5M
  5. Johnson, Jack - $5M
  6. Tyutin, Fedor - $4.75M
  7. Dubinsky, Brandon - $4.65M
  8. Foligno, Nick - $3.75M
  9. Anisimov, Artem - $3.1M
  10. Johansen, Ryan - $3M
This is the list of Blue Jackets players' salaries this year.

Note that Dubinsky already has an extension inked giving him $5.85M for the next six years after this one.

I don't get it... Why the hell was the organization refusing to pay Johansen what he's worth, but so willing to throw money at guys who are nowhere near the difference-maker Johansen is?

If Johansen could've been had for a $4M/y cap hit, why the hell didn't anyone send him an offer sheet? The draft pick compensation is a 1st & 3rd round pick for an averaged salary between $3.3 and $5M. I'd take Johansen in a heartbeat for a 1st & 3rd, especially if it were at the bottom half of the draft order!

Those bolded were signed by a different GM.
