I thought you might appreciate the spin towards religion. :heh:

LOL. I did appreciate that. I just could not find an appropriate response without sounding like 'that crazy guy who always goes off on religion'. Despite my proclivities for criticizing religion, I do want to respect others' beliefs.

Now, please don't make this another discussion on religion. Let's talk about pantshitters and the relative ability of the starting lineup to score runs. Because in the cosmic realm, that is what's really important.

Look where I live. I know what is happening here in the Boston area. Beckett is as good as gone and Beckett will be hard to move. His numbers are crap, he is injured a lot, and he is considered the ring leader of the Chicken and Beer melt down last September. Beckett is getting all the blame for corrupting Lester and Buchholz.

In fans minds it is addition by subtraction. In fact, Zito and Soriano contracts were mentioned by ESPN as the type of contract that would be headed back to Boston on a trade. But, they said even that might not be enough. Teams are looking at Beckett as a cancer and think he will ruin the pitching rotation of any team he goes to.

Based on the fact that he ruined Terry Francona and is well on his way to doing the same for Bobby Valentine, that sentiment cannot be that far off from the truth.

Since Beckett has a large contract that runs through 2014, he will not be easy to move. But I think that Zito and Soriano are a bit off-base as potential trade pieces. Despite Beckett's attitude and ego and even despite his injury history, the guy can flat deal when he is healthy. Even as damaged goods, he SHOULD bring back more than Zito. That's just my opinion, but I am not a Major League GM at this moment, so please feel free to disagree with me.

That being said, I'd take Beckett for Zito right now. I think coming to a new team, he would not be able to assert his dominance as much as he is able to in Boston. Even if he did and even if he was as big a cancer here as he is there, Beckett is owed about $10 mil less than Zito over the life of both of their contracts. If nothing else, it saves the Giants some money.

The upside far outweighs the downside. But Boston would never make that deal.

Then....why do we want that on our team, exactly?

Of course, being a non-Christian, I subscribe more to the Doctrine of TransGiraffization wherein young jimmy-jakced 1B become solid, middle of the order hitters.

Azochen vey, that should happen...

I tend to agree with this. Laying aside the no trade clause (I'm pretty sure Zeets wouldn't waive it), I'd deal Zito for Beckett. I don't think he could sour the vibe. The leaders are Cain, Timmy, Affeldt, Romo, Panda, Franchez, Huffer and Buster. And Weez if/when he gets back. I just can't see Beckett messing that up...it's too tight a ship.

And Beckett as a #5 starter?? Yikes, that'd be something to see.

One note -- I have Beckett at 17/17/17 for the next three years and Zito at 19/20/7. So Beckett would actually be getting $5MM MORE than Zeets. The Sux would need to eat a good chunk of that contract in addition to taking Zeets.

Oops. You're right. Acording to Cot's Baseball Contracts, Beckett is almost halfway through a 4-year, $50 million deal.

According to them, he is owed $15.75 in 2013 and 2014. That's $31.5. Zito is owed $20 mil in 2013 plus a $7 mil buyout. That obviously is $27 mil. Zito is making $3.25 mil more than Beckett this season ($19 mil to $15.75), so any trade this season would lessen that differential slightly. But the point is that tzill was right and Beckett is owed more over the life of his deal than Zeets.

I think I would do Beckett and Youk for Huff and Zito right now. Doubt Boston would though.

I'd make that deal too.

It's incredibly win now, but say Belt starts performing moderately, and he could be flipped for a rental bat. Not saying I advocate it, or that it will even happen, but that's just some food for thought.

Did you REALLY just bust out the Golden Girls reference?

Wow, dude. You may be in line for another timeout...

Nope. Much more classic than that:
