KNBR just had a QUICK snippet about reports out of NY that Selig will block the I's move to SJ. Is this an actual story, or just some weird KNBR marketing blast?

MLB likely to uphold San Francisco Giants' territorial rights in San Jose, leaving the A's stuck in Oakland - NY Daily News

There's that, but he doesn't name one source throughout the entire piece. Maybe I should become a writer, make shit up, and then claim it was all "anonymous" sources.

Bill Madden is a pretty well respected guy who has been reporting for years. He wrote the Steinbrenner biography IIRC. He doesn't "make shit up." I heard an interview today and he's talked to several FO types around the league and they are all saying the same thing: they don't want to create a precedent of taking away teams' territorial rights, which are granted to them in MLB's Constitution.

Bottom line: Fuck the I's. Beat it to Portland or contract.

Yep. Not going to have any sympathy for owners whose main strategy relies on alienating their current fan base.

I vote to contract that abomination, but that won't happen. They'll move.

The day the AAAA's move out of the Bay Area will be one of the happiest days of my sporting life. I will throw a party so freaking large; everything at the party will be draped in orange and black. I will put orange food coloring in the lager and mix it with Guinness. I will make a black and orange cake. I will demand that only things that are very Giant or covered in Giants logos be allowed in the house.

This party will go on for DAYS - and anyone stupid enough to travel to the Central Valley is invited.

According to Madden, there is some legitimate sentiment by several owners to contract the Rays and the I's. They're tired of supporting them through revenue sharing. I guess that'd require another team go to the AL. My vote is the Rox.

ALE: Yanks, BoSox, Jays, Orioles
ALC: Tribe, Tigers, Twinkies, ChiSox, Royals
ALW: Angels, Rangers, Astros, Rox
NLE: Mess, Braves, Philth, Nats, Fish
NLC: Bucs, Cards, Brewers, Reds, Chubbs
NLW: Gyros, doyers, Maxis, Snakes

I know 2 of the 'several owners' who'd like to nix the Rays: Yankees' and Bosox'

I don't think any teams get contracted but those 2 might move (Portland, Charlotte, Nashville, OKC, San Antonio, etc)

Also you forgot the Mariners in the ALW

All the more reason for them to get contracted.

Hellz yeah.

Or maybe we can do a merger. We'll take Felix and Ichiro and Montero and leave the rest....

How would a contraction work for MLB? A draft to spread out the +300 players owned by the I's and Rays? I can think of more than a few players I'd want on each of those teams....

MLB has rules already set in place for this. There is a draft, but I am not sure how it works specifically. I also do not know what happens to the contracts of the guys who are not drafted. Does MLB pay them off, or are they nullified under some bankruptcy laws?

great question. My guess would be that guys would be given some severance. Those contracts aren't guaranteed so it's quite likely that a couple hundred guys throughout baseball would be DFA'd. A great opportunity for a savvy FO to pick up some cheap talent.

If teams are contracted to 28 teams. My guess would be the Brewers they used to be in the AL, was surprised they chose the Astros.

ALE: NYY, BOS, TOR, BAL, CHW, DET, CLE
ALW: LAA, TEX, HOU, MIL, KC, SEA, MIN
NLE: NYM, PHI, ATL, PIT, WAS, FLA, CIN
NLW: SF, LAD, SD, AZ, CHI, ROX, STL

2 Divisions per league, 2 division winners 1st round bye. Top 4 non - division winners play a best of 3 in the higher seeds ball park (6@3, 5@4). Expand the roster to 27, bring back scheduled double headers.

Or Preferably move the Rays to NJ, A's to Portland. Expand to Charlotte and Las Vegas.

ALE: NYY, BOS, TOR, BAL, CHW, DET, CLE, NJ
ALW: LAA, TEX, HOU, LV, KC, SEA, MIN, POR
NLE: NYM, PHI, ATL, PIT, WAS, FLA, CIN, CHA
NLW: SF, LAD, SD, AZ, CHI, MIL, STL, ROX

Same playoff set up as above.

No inter league play in either scenario.
