Many chances? I think not! Ruf is hitting .250 in his last 8 starts. Before those starts there were far and few in between. He has also had pinch hitting at bats sprinkled in. He has started the last 7 games in a row. Compare that with Dom Brown who had a whole season to find his swing. He needs to remain in the starting lineup to get a fair chance. I am looking for his power stroke to kick in. When that happens no one will complain as long as he hits .250 with a decent amount of homeruns!

It is possible that Ruf blows. Knowing the alternatives, they must keep playing him to disprove or confirm it at least until Brown returns. If he busts out, delay Brown while he's re-seasoning. There's nothing to lose. Ruf's only had a few key hits in the past few weeks.

In April he started in less than 10 games, 39 AB, .179 avg, .250 OBP, 3 doubles, 2 HR.
In May he's started in 7 consecutive games, 25 AB, .269 avg, .280 OBP, one double, 0 HR. Can he hit .300 this month? That's why he must play the entire month. Who knows, there might be something there.

In my mind, Ruf has responded pretty well despite being jerked around to the max by both braindead and braindead-mini-me. I'll take a .250 Ruf over that buffoon Brown any day. Move Asche to second, call up Franco to play third, sit Utley, Sizemore, and Francoeur, and play Revere in right, and Ruf in left since we can't get rid of Howard and we would have a pretty darn good young team to really build with and see where they take the organization.

I agree. Batting .250 in spots starts should earn you a solid week or two of starts, especially if the rest of the team is so pathetic with the bats.

Great comment retro! However it makes too much sense! This is a moronic operation that is always late
figuring out the obvious.
