A different angle - I never like it when a guy is already engaged with one player and a second player comes in to deliver a hit against a guy who is basically defenseless.

I dont know what it was called on the ice but I have always hated checks with the stick high like that checks should be with the shoulder or the body thats my take on it.

What does the tweet say? Are you really judging a whole fan base based on one person? :L

Dangit. I just put this in the Ongoing NHL thread.

So, my thoughts on the hit. Perhaps unnecessary. But looked worse because of the result. You see that 5 times a game. One guy has someone pinned/checked and the guys starts to get away and a second guy comes in and finishes him.

I'd actually lose respect for Bellows if he *didn't* become involved.

And there's not a lot of respect there to be lost.

Well if it's 500 messages of Rangers fans saying bad things like that to him, isn't 500 a significant number?

Nope. Like how the thousands of Boston fans who went after Joel Ward a few years back. Not indicative of an entire fanbase.

Well this is why i'm asking you what it says. I'm at work and can't see tweets.

500/millions. Not significant enough to me.

Many fans were upset with the hit, but does this mean our knowledge of the game is being questioned, again? :L

Like I just said in the other thread. Some people have way too much time on their hands and take it way too far. Death threats aren't a joke, and are not funny.

Ranger ''fans'' and I put that in quotations because I can guarantee you those are casual fans who don't know shit about it that are saying that. But don't sit here and act like the Rangers have the only fans in the world who say this shit. lol Most of the people that have made these threats are sitting here thinking ''OMG you hurt one of our best players, at least from what I see people talking about on Twitter, let's kill this guy!'' ala casual fan.

Just last week or two weeks ago, Leaf fans were threatening the life of Reimer's wife or whichever player it was. Threats like this are seen quite often and by many fan bases.

Paul Stewart is not a fan of Bellows:

Burrows is one of the game's most disliked players for good reason. He is a sneaky opportunist. Rather than playing a tough-but-clean physical game, he actively seeks out vulnerable opposing players and accelerates into the hit when he knows they are vulnerable. That is always followed by some weak post-game excuse and shifting of blame.

and he probably had those same biases against other players when he was a ref ... gotta love the professionalism of a one time "arbitrator"

this is level 5 referee stuff :L
