It's a shame Aaron Murray went the pick before. Guarantee he'll be a better pro than McCarron. Stupid pick. Mettenberger must totally blow. May not even be drafted at this rate.

They're all slobbing his knob. He honestly cannot be any worse than Dalton. Dalton won right away. So can McCarron. McCarron is taller, more mobile, and has a stronger arm.

I admit I would have rather had Bridgewater or Murray, but I'm ok with AJ.
So what if he has the same skillset as Dalton, all we need is a Dalton who doesn't panic and/or screw up. McCarron's been a winner, and he has a little cockiness to him, but I think this team needs that.

Not sure AJ is any better than Dalton. As a matter of fact he seems similar, though more accurate. We'll see what happens when he tries to play against NFL quality talent. He was protected by NFL quality talent at 'bama, and frequently had all day to throw. Even as good as the Bengals are at protecting the passer, he'll still have to make quick decisions and get rid of the ball. He is, however, easily better than recent backups here have been.

As long as our QB isn't thought of in the locker room to be a giant pussy (fake wedding rings and stuff), I think this is an upgrade.

You'd be a littly cocky too if you were going to marry Miss Alabama, and so would I. He's been a fine leader in college, and I agree with you that the Bengals could use some edge at quarterback.

Supposedly, McCarron has a much bigger arm than Dalton, or at least that is what they keep saying. How much bigger? I have not seen McCarron play too much, so can he heave a ball 60 yards without making it look like he is throwing his arm out of socket?

I like that he is from a pro offense, playing against a pro defense, comes from a winning team, won a National Championship and brings big time leadership to his position. A guy who can rally the troops and make them all come together and play as a single unit. Boomer like maybe in that respect?

We've lacked leadership at the quarterback position for a long time.

He's the poor man's Dalton. Not a fan of the pick.

If we went QB I wanted either a gunslinger or an athlete capable of improvisational plays

I'd rather have a backup that's similar to the starter. In my opinion it makes it easier if there's an injury or the starter plays like shit. Put the backup in and the offense won't have to change much.

Boomer was (is) a dick, but the team followed him and believed in him. I think McCarron might have that Boomer-like leadership quality. He does have the arm to make all the throws, but again the biggest problem I foresee for him is being able to adjust to NFL speed. Might take him a year or so to accomplish that. It's encouraging though that maybe there's finally a little competition for Dandy.

That's a fair point, and if you can unequivocally say your QB is a franchise QB I'd agree. For the Bengals I wanted a strong armed QB who can push the ball downfield to help AJ Green.

Not many Mannings, Brees, Brady's in the draft. McCarron is a solid pick from what I can tell who is an excellent leader and can make all the throws from what they are saying. They say his biggest weakness is trying to do too much like when he was under pressure and throwing off his back foot putting it up for grabs. Teach him a little more fundamentals, surround him with weapons, and let him be the leader he was in Alabama and let him distribute the ball. Difference between him and Dalton, supposedly from what they are saying on NFL Network, he can heave the ball deep without under throwing his WR every single time.

What we need now is a minor injury early in the season to both Dandy and Campbell so that Marvin is forced to give AJ a shot.

If we're going to be as committed to the run as they say we'll be, then the AJ pick won't be a huge deal. We need to make sure Boling is healthy, since we didn't really draft or sign a guard.

Maybe Bodine can win the starting job at center. Pollak played well at both guard positions last year and could easily move to LG if Boling needs more time at the start of the season.

I'd be ok if we traded Dalton for a future 1st round pick or 2nd with change
