I get you Treff but the word out of Detroit is that they are planning on useing 2 TE sets with Ebron in the slot something like 60 percent of the time while the other te will always stay in to block just like they do in NO. I think Ebron has a chance to be productive in his first year cause he will be playing a wr role more so than a TE's. Not that WR do all that much there rookie seasons either but i think Ebron has a very productive season none the less since he is a match up problem and at the very least he wont have to ever worry about double teams.

so TE's and WR's dont do great as rookies, but a guy being asked to play a "tweener" position of his natural position will do better:scratch:

Well..tbh.. Neither did, Pettigrew, or Nate Burleson, or Tony Scheffler, Bryant Johnson, Roy Williams...you get the point.
And if they plan to have him in 60% of the plays, he'd better dam well know how to block, won't take long for defenses to say. . "Oh look, Ebron is in, gauranteed pass, send in the blitz package" that won't last long if Stafford is getting hammered

Jared Abbrederis over Devonte Adams in GB?
I think any slot detail work that Abbrederis gets would rely heavily on an injury to Cobb.

Cobb-Nelson-Adams will more than likely start out in the 3WR sets, imo.
But I could be wrong. If they want to move Cobb outside more this season, that would open up some slot snaps for Abbrederis.

GB really likes their 4 wide formations. I wouldn't be surprised if he made an influence in camp.

You're still overlooking Boykins..A receiver who already had the trust of coaches and Rodgers.

Treff you do bring up a great point that there really has never been a great number 2 in Detriot but i also don't think there has been a number 2 like Ebron. A guy that can get off the line very fast. In fact according to sports science whom did a study on Ebron said he had the quickest get off of any TE ever tested. That means to me that a LB will not be able to stay with him and if he goes deep there is no SS or Corner he can't out muscle.

And yes teams are going to know when Ebron is in it will mean pass but the Lions are not going to try and hide that fact just like the Saints don't expect teams to think graham is going to block. Ebron will act as a wr, line up as one and will be showcased as one. He should get decent wr 2 numbers which should translate into really good TE1 numbers. He is basically a wr who you can start at TE that's where i say the value really lies with him but we'll see.

Foot i also like Ebron..and i have already admitted to being some what ignorant about college players...

however i give you Burleson as a solid number 2 Wr when he was healthy beside the big Calvin freak... and when those 2 were out there how much did Detroit get out of the Te ....

but im all in on Ebron also

and

to answer the thread

1- has to be Sankey...give me the number 1 Rb anyday over a list of rookie WR twos and threes...

I'd say that's about right, very very rare for a rookie TE to make a big impact. Don't let Orange Julius cloud your judgements. Rookie TE'S have A LOT to learn so the curve usually b takes them into year 2 or three before they're getting enough PT, and the trust of the QB and coaches to be a big part of the gamelan. Blitz pick ups, oline shifts, run blocking assignments. .plus their own route trees. . It shouldn't be a shock to see rookie TE's only play a handful of snaps per game that rookie year. And let's be real, Detriot has a capable, talented, albeit extremely inconsistently frustrating, TE that they already don't use. There's no rush to force Ebron into the spotlight. Sorry foot, but Ebron is WAY down my list of possible impact rookies.

What do you mean by orange Julius? Are you talking about Julius Thomas? He wasn't a rookie last year. He was drafted in 2011.

The only rookie TE to crack 100 FF points in the past 10 years was Gronk in 2010 (with a whopping 105). Nobody else.

Guys like Gronk and Graham they are a rare bread, not in the talent they possess but in the hybrid position they play. Ok and they are pretty talented but, any guy that makes it to a starting position in the NFL is a freak of nature talent. What really separates these two TEs from the rest is the way the Pats and Saints line them up. They don't try and fool defenses by believing they can fool you into thinking Graham or Gronk are going to stay in and block. They know you know they know they are going to send them out for a pass. That is were the comparisons are all coming from, cause Ebron will be used the exact same way. He is a new age hybrid TE/WR so you really can't go by the average TE's stats in my opinion.

The best reference out there are the Gronks, Grahams and Verns and true those guys have had average at best first years but there are many people saying that Ebron can do even more things on the feild than Graham and Gronk and that thought is very intriguing and I believe worth the risk of a draft pick especially if you can get him later on in the draft with a late round pick!!

I have two picks in the 4th round of my league, 4th round begins the keeper period, and I am targeting guys like Hyde, Ebron and Mathews.

From all I have heard Hyde is a bad pick for 2014, but a great future pick. Ebron and Matthews should both be much better for 2014.

I think Watkins will be good but he reminds me of all the hype with Tavon Austin last season who was going to be the #1 for the Rams; he started producing but it was halfway through the season
Cook is more like Austin. Watkins is more like Blackmon. Of the two, Id take Cook because Brees is the best at making the most of his talent.

Matthews seems like he is in the perfect spot, though, so he'd be my guess for most impactful rookie

I would be taking Hyde to stash because Gore has to eventually slow down...although his demise has been discussed for years.

I think Gore has one more year in him as long as he still looks fast in the preseason. He really has only had 1 brutal season when it comes to touches and that was early on in his career. Steven Jackson had 3. Lynch is currently coming off 2 back to back so I'm keeping an eye on it him.

Yep my bad. . But even more proud to the point. . The guy currently occupying the #2 fantasy TE spot was unheard of until year 3.
